My wife and I just got back from our honeymoon spent at the Valentin (May 13-21) and it was absolute perfection. We have stayed at the Palladium and the Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach during previous vacations in Mexico and the Valentin has definitely been our favorite! The grounds were beautiful and the staff was wonderful- friendly and attentive. We stayed in Building 2 in a silver junior suite with a jungle view and were extremely happy with the room, especially the hot tub and great views of the birds from our balcony. It was a short walk to the pool area and beach and all of the path ways are clearly labeled and well lit at night. The food and drinks in the restaurants were fantastic, especially La Hacienda and Mar y Tierra. They even set up a grill and grilled lunch by the pool every day. The grounds are immaculate and the beach was absolutely beautiful and had plenty of chairs and a fantastic beachside bar with swings. Besides going to Xel-Ha and Xcaret, which were wonderful, we also took a snorkel tour offered at the poolside dive shop. Our guide Francisco was FANTASTIC, and we felt incredibly safe the entire time and had such a blast snorkeling in the ocean. The hotel's location is perfect, it only took about 25 minutes to get there from the Cancun airport. Our only complaint would be the poolside drinks- they all tasted like artificial sweetener and were nothing like the fantastic cocktails we had at the hotel's restaurants. Overall, would highly recommend.

Valentin Imperial Maya

Pros: Excellent staff; good prices; very customer service oriented. Food was great too!!
Cons: The only negative was that our room smelled a bit musty and the A/C was an issue that was fixed right away.
Location: We did not feel comfortable leaving the property. We did one short excursion which was fine. Our other excursion was cancelled due to weather.
Great experience; excellent staff and customer service. We had problems with the air conditioning in our room, but they were quick to help. The room had a musty smell to it, but assume that was due to problems with the Air Conditioning. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate but the hotel had activities to do indoors as well. The food in all restaurants was very good. It was a great trip and one of the few places we would return.

We just returned from our 3rd stay at the Valentin. Hotel grounds and rooms: Excellent, tastefully decorated, clean, beautiful floral arrangements. Room: We had a golden superior junior suite: clean; elegant. Towels are replaced twice a day. Amanda, concierge, arranged for cleaning by 1 pm, extra water & extra hangers.Staff: The hotel staff are friendly and provide excellent service throughout the resort. Danny (waiter and Mar Y Tierra, Erik (porter), and Maria (lazy river area) all recognized us from our previous stay. We only ate at the Mar Y Tierra, buffet by the beach, for breakfast and lunch. We always asked for Danny and Jorge's section. Hats off to these guys! Japanese restaurant: Darwin, waiter, was great; chef made food just for me (low salt diet) that was excellent. Quiet atmosphere. Steakhouse: Jonathan did a fantastic job as our waiter. Don Miguel bar: Nice place for afternoon drinks. Appetizers are set out inside door but some staff insist that they bring them to the table. Why have them set out if you can't serve yourself? Dress code was not enforced. Pool: We only sat at the lazy river pool. You had to reserve chairs in order to get on under a shelter. Quiet except for when large groups congregated. Constant drink service. Beach: We only sat in the area beside the beach wedding spot. Very quiet. Drink service available. Entertainment: Absolutely love the marimba ensemble by the lobby! Those guys could play Carnigie Hall!

Beautiful resort but over rated

The resort itself was beautiful. Nicely laid out, landscaping was very nice, everything was done to keep it clean and properly groomed. The initial service at check in was less than desirable, though. We were sat off to the side until someone could get to us and then told that the room we wanted was not available; we requested a king size bed and they only had rooms with two doubles. There wasn't even any offer to try and move us as something became available. This was not a good first impression. Further, it appeared that restaurant seating favored the "preferred " guests. Either state first come first served, and hold everyone to that, or warn those guests that aren't preferred that they may have trouble getting a seat until later. Otherwise our trip was nice and the wait staff was great. Management just needs some customer service lessons. Don't think we'll return.

Wonderful resort

Pros: Wonderful food, great service, beautiful grounds and beach
Cons: Ocean side bars staying open later
Location: We did a fun tour with Aventuras Mayas that included snorkeling in a cave, an open cenote and an ocean inlet, that was so much fun! Incl lunch also.
This was our first visit to this resort and we loved it! Staff was so friendly and helpful, and there never seemed to be a shortage of staff, we were very well taken care of in all aspects! The food at the restaurants was incredible! We never had a bad meal there. Our first night was in an imperial suite, as our rooms were not ready yet. It was a beautiful suite and surrounded by trees so alot of birds and coatis, it was wonderful! It was a pain to not be able to fully unpack and settle in, but it did give us an idea of what an inner resort building would be like. The next day we went to our rooms in the ocean front Emerald Suites, we had a beautiful view of the ocean right from our room! The Plaza had fun bands and DJ's every night, and there were great themed shows (some w/ buffets) in the theater. I really can't say enough great things about this place. Only 2 things that I didn't like was that you have to pay for a privilege pkg to use the bed bungalow type things on the beach. The chairs on the beach are not very comfortable, there are plenty of them, but if it would have been warm enough to spend more time than we did on the beach, I would not have been comfortable in those chairs. Also, all of the bars by the ocean close by 5 or 6, so a later ocean bar would be nice. It wouldn't have to be an all night one, but until 8 or so would be nice. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone, and hope to stay there again!
