Some staff were a little pushy about the special revisits to the property. The construction blocked some paths. The hot water in the room struggled to keep hot. Loved the overall property. Beautiful. Ecodiverse. Lots to do.

not worth the money

Cons: hotel needs a renovation
When booking my vacation package I picked a united flight above all others because they allow full size carryon. Travelocity sold me basic economy seats which separated my senior parents and my 5 year old daughter, there was no carryon allowed only a personal item. I also requested to have adjoin rooms with my parents because but was not honored that at the hotel. Also requested king size beds and received both rooms with 2 queens. the room service was not included as indicated online. I have purchased vacations thru Travelocity plenty of times and this time I was very dissatisfied. This hotel needs updating, beds are over used.

Nice to be with kids with more activities. They love to be in water all the time. Also,It’s like outside Mexico is in the resort. We had a wonderful time with lot of options for food with so many restaurants. But, didn’t get a chance to try the Japanese food as they need reservation which was full during our stay. Rooms need to maintained properly with latest upgrades. Overall I recommend those with kids should visit and enjoy the tropical paradise.

Huge resort. There is always something to do. We were there a week and still didn't get to do everything. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Is there a better place to escape the winter Chicago doldrums than sunny Playa del Carmen? This resort makes you feel like you are in a private jungle. We enjoyed roaming the various nature paths, seeing the local wildlife, made friends with an armless monkey, swam in the cenote, built sandcastles on the beach and also found time to do nothing at all! Hungry? Go to the Brazilian steakhouse! Thirsty? Have a margarita! Are your kids sick of the beach, pool or water park? Send them to Kids Club! They have a great variety of things to do during the day. The staff is very friendly and responsive. The concierge desk was very helpful when we couldn’t start our rental car on the way to the airport. We made it, BTW! This is a step beyond your typical all-inclusive resort. Our only complaint is we did not have a screen door on our balcony, so we could not listen to the night-time sounds. Overall, we would highly recommend to families with young children.

Had an awesome time

Pros: Food, service, the feel of the buildings and the design of the grounds, activities for kids, and overall atmosphere.
Cons: maybe have one more full bar for the grownups. Sometimes had to walk to get a drink. Beach is not super-swimmable, but nothing to do about that.
Location: Xel-Ha is the place to go if you have an excursion option. Just an incredible place to swim.. Tulum is amazing, but kids tired of it quickly.
OK, I'm not usually into all-inclusive set-ups because I've had poor experiences in the past at places where the food is very mediocre, the staff is not friendly, or the place is just run-down. Sandos Caracol was not that way at all! It was truly great. First, know that this is a family-friendly place, and if it was just me and my wife, I might want something a bit more upscale and less focused on activities. However, we had three kids in tow, and it was a perfect match. There was plenty to do on the property between the waterpark and the cenote (sinkhole) snorkeling. Food was really good. The international Buffet is the place where most folks go, and despite being the de-facto cafeteria, it had plenty of variety and the service was terrific. The only exception was the Brazilian steak restaurant, and there the meat was dry and over cooked. I give them a pass on that because it was very busy, but it was a little disappointing. The service on ALL levels was excellent. Room service was always polite, no matter how many times my kids ordered sandwiches and desserts during the day. The restaurant staff were likewise polite and attentive. Also, the people who helped to organize the activities (Yeleni was our helper) were excellent. They all seemed to be having fun on the job, and that rubbed off on us. By the end, we wanted to stay longer, which is NEVER the norm for me. We will be back!

Best Family Vacation Ever!!

Amazing resort! From the accommodations to the staff to the beautiful natural surroundings and amenities...all top notch! We loved our time here and will definitely be back! Grounds are meticulously maintained, and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. My kids (13, 9, and 7) all loved the water park, pools, beach, and wildlife! Special thanks to Alejandra and Jessica, best concierge team around! And huge shout out to Fernando, tour guide extraordinaire.... Sylvia at Le Marcasas, best omelette maker ever...and Elodia at the spa, master masseuse!

Sandos has made improvements

I was a little scared by the reviews, but here is what we found. We just got back yesterday. Check-in was maybe 30 minutes. We arrived about 3PM, which is Check-in time. A representative is waiting to tell you about the hotel. They also want to get you to come the next morning for 1.5 hours to show you the grounds(and sign up for the timeshare). They offer massages in exchange, but we declined. No other pressure during trip. We went directly to make reservations for Japanese restaurant. Openings were 4 days out. We upgraded our room for $200(would have been $100 if booked originally) to a “king” with bunk bed. It was a full and not very comfortable. My husband ended up sleeping on one of the bunks each night. You get WiFi in most of the hotel area, but kicks you off quite often. My 6 year old boy was SO excited about the water park. We ended up staying 20 minutes total the week because his size slides were closed until the morning we left. Beach is rocky, but walk 5 minutes south and great sand. Went to Steak/fish restaurant and waited 5 minutes(7:30 at night). Meal took about 1.5 hours. Use kid’s activities/club. This will allow to have an hour or two. My son was actually excited to go. You do need to sign up for activities ahead of time. It wasn’t really busy so during high season, it may mean planning farther ahead.

Too many Cons than Pros

PROS:: 1. mini water park for smaller kids. My kids are 8 & 10. Too kiddie for them, they didn't care for it. 2. The natural water pool,Cenote was great 3. All the wild animals were fun 4. All inclusive was great, food wasn't too bad CONS:: 1. When we first arrived they tried to sell us the royal elite deal, very pushy, too pushy actually! 2. No A/C in any restaurants or restrooms 3. Beside water park only 1 pool we could use and it was so HOT! Hot tub hot! And so nasty and filthy 4. Our room was so hot every night, could not sleep comfortably 5. The ocean was right at hotel but Way too Rocky! Couldn't enjoy it. 6. It's very secluded and have to take a taxi to do 5th avenue, the shopping strip 7. Some staff members were rude, mostly the women there. 8. Oh and let me not forget about the mosquitoes! They will eat you alive! Take bug spray!! I wanted out the first night but had to stick it out for 5 nights. Overall, worst vacation ever. Never again, lesson learned!
