"Excellent experience and excellent location."
We stayed for one night, before continuing on to next stop, and had a wonderful relaxing time. The location is a few blocks from Balboa Park, and there is a free bus that will take you around the park. There are several excellent restaurants within a block of the hotel. While walking to the restaurant we were told by some locals about Mr. A's,which is a restaurant-bar with rooftop seating. We went up after dinner and it has an amazing view of the city. You watch the planes land in the distance while dining or having a cocktail. The hotel staff was always available to help and answer question about the area, and the breakfast was delicious! We will stay again when back in the San Diego area.

"good value, but tragically hip"
In it's desperate attempt to be hip, The Pearl forgets some of the standard sophistication generally seen in hotels of all quality today. My first biggest disappointment was the lack of soap in the room for my full 5-day stay. Soap is an amenity that even the scummiest of places provide, but here the staff suggested I go buy my own since they were out. Secondly, the restaurant staff at the hotel were clueless and clearly untrained in how to seat people. I was told I could not be sat at a two-top being just a single, which is unheard of; then the hostess told me to stand at the host station and wait for a bar stool while other customers swooped into empty stools directly at the bar. I ended up leaving. Finally, the rooms are nice, but there are some things that have not been updated since the mid-century, such as the shower, plumbing system as a whole, and the a/c (whose loudness is great for drowning out the annoying event noise- movie night is a great idea, but they clearly are not equipped to host so many people and allow people to sit directly against guest room walls, another tribute to the flaky staff).

"Hotel Del Coronado One night stay"
Love this hotel. SUPER expensive. The staff is super frinedly and nice. The prices for everything is from bottled water ($4.95) to Chips and guacamole ($18.00) is unbelievably high. I took my own beer wine champs and alcohol and saved hundreds! You can drink on the beach FYI!! Tell them it is your anniversary and they will give you a card that allows you to get free: 2 beach chairs and umbrella ($65.) 2 free drinks ($35.00) 1 chocolate bar ($10.00) Free upgrade at the spa from 30 minutes to 50 minutes

"Perfect pad for partying"
I wanted a stylish spot in Gaslamp for me (and friends if need be) to crash at for my 30th birthday. I took a gamble in reserving this hotel as I did not know which one I was getting. All I knew ahead of time was that it was in dowtown and 4 stars. When I found out the location of the hotel, my jaw dropped. Right in the middle of all of downtown San Diego's best bars and restaurants. The lobby wasn't much of a lobby, quite small but all the staff for check in were prompt and friendly. Room was clean, well kept, and hip urban modern decor. It was also stuffed with lots of goodies too, just don't eat everything! The shower was out in the open, be aware if you have privacy issues. But this hotel was all that I had hoped for. The biggest con for me was parking, at $35 a nite it is not cheap so factor that in your bill. Also, if you are sensitive to noise, be aware that you will here all the commotion from the streets below. Best for younger singles and couples, not recommended for kids and families.
