"Nice, clean hotel, but very noisy on the front."
Rooms are updated. Nice clean small hotel. Quite noisy on the front side. The taco restaurant on the opposite side of the street is bomb.

"Really helped me out!"
I was in San Diego for a conference, and my light home was cancelled due to a blizzard back in Boston. The place I was staying was completely booked, so I needed somewhere else to go. The staff here were great! I was able to drop my bags off early during the last day of the conference, and they held them at the desk. My flight home was two days away, and I was able to get work done outside in the sunshine and also in their little office off the lobby. The wifi worked great in my room too, but I couldn't stay away from the nice weather! The location is great - right in Little Italy and close to lots of restaurants, shops etc... I walked to the Harbor one day, and to Balboa park another day. When I go back to San Diego, I will definitely stay here again!

"Beautiful historic hotel in Gaslamp"
This hotel has many pros and no cons. We loved staying here and plan to come again! First, you have to keep in mind that it's a historic hotel. The rooms aren't going to be huge. However, a room with a queen bed was more than adequate for two people. The hotel is beautifully decorated. They had free Girl Scout cookies in the lounge. They had free yoga lessons in a studio within the hotel. They gave free guided walking tours. Their attached restaurant was very good. The hotel service was very good; they were very polite and seemed to enjoy working there. The Sofia Hotel is located in Gaslamp and a $5 Uber ride from the main area/Gaslamp sign. Honestly, we could have walked to the main area if it wasn't raining. Definitely worth the amount of money paid and was a great experience!

"good value, but tragically hip"
In it's desperate attempt to be hip, The Pearl forgets some of the standard sophistication generally seen in hotels of all quality today. My first biggest disappointment was the lack of soap in the room for my full 5-day stay. Soap is an amenity that even the scummiest of places provide, but here the staff suggested I go buy my own since they were out. Secondly, the restaurant staff at the hotel were clueless and clearly untrained in how to seat people. I was told I could not be sat at a two-top being just a single, which is unheard of; then the hostess told me to stand at the host station and wait for a bar stool while other customers swooped into empty stools directly at the bar. I ended up leaving. Finally, the rooms are nice, but there are some things that have not been updated since the mid-century, such as the shower, plumbing system as a whole, and the a/c (whose loudness is great for drowning out the annoying event noise- movie night is a great idea, but they clearly are not equipped to host so many people and allow people to sit directly against guest room walls, another tribute to the flaky staff).

"Full service hotel in great location"
This hotel has everything you could want in a hotel - great location, gorgeous lobby, piano bar, 24 hour (delicious) room service, pool, spa, and every room has a balcony, free bottles of water, fridge, coffee maker, and a spacious vanity area. The tiniest 3 improvements could make for a truly perfect stay. They should offer free coffee in the lobby in the morning. Especially because they are stingy on the in-room "refills." I stayed three nights and never got a refill on my coffee pods or soaps - the original soap lasted the four days, but the two coffee pods did not. Finally it is very difficult to find an outlet. I had to pull out the (very heavy) marble nightstand and unplug the bedside lamp so I could plug in my phone. It would be nice if they put a little outlet strip on the nightstands in light of this. So other than coffee, restocking the room, and outlets - none of which are major enough to distract a star - this hotel provides a completely 5 star experience.

"Quaint hotel in Del Mar"
Why stay downtown for a conference when the view of the Pacific Ocean is so lovely at L'Auberge? The rate was even lower than my downtown convention rate but yet the commute was a breeze. Highly recommend!
