Full service hotel in great location

Pros: location, balcony, dressing room/vanity area, dining
Cons: access to outlets for charging personal devices, complementary coffee
Location: very short walking distance to many fun restaurants and bars
This hotel has everything you could want in a hotel - great location, gorgeous lobby, piano bar, 24 hour (delicious) room service, pool, spa, and every room has a balcony, free bottles of water, fridge, coffee maker, and a spacious vanity area. The tiniest 3 improvements could make for a truly perfect stay. They should offer free coffee in the lobby in the morning. Especially because they are stingy on the in-room "refills." I stayed three nights and never got a refill on my coffee pods or soaps - the original soap lasted the four days, but the two coffee pods did not. Finally it is very difficult to find an outlet. I had to pull out the (very heavy) marble nightstand and unplug the bedside lamp so I could plug in my phone. It would be nice if they put a little outlet strip on the nightstands in light of this. So other than coffee, restocking the room, and outlets - none of which are major enough to distract a star - this hotel provides a completely 5 star experience.

Great service, excellent food, fair prices

Pros: Service and food. Better prices than other 4 star hotels we have stayed at in the area.
Cons: Everything is old and needs refurbishing. Restaurant needs painting and has crack in ceiling.
Location: We were on business trip so the only exploring we did was to restaurants in area.
Though dated and could use a refurbishing this is a beautiful and comfortable hotel. Also being right in the heart of downtown and close to police dept can get noisy with windows open when sirens are heard. Overall our experience was great. Service is excellent! Food is unbelievably good with fair pricing and again wonderful service whether in restaurant or in room. Walking distance to many shops and restaurants. Cable car for others.

Pros: Jazz music when first turn tv on- it actually helped drown out sounds of train next building or snoring next room. Loved music.
Cons: All security to keep homeless from camping in front building. Like president was visiting. Two men walking always in suits casing building.
Location: Good location - but a lot of homeless downtown.
Ok- lots security. Constantly watched - moment walk in lobby- moment walk in elevator- moment walk out elevator- is only one way to room- in front of lobby desk- no stairs - not a relaxing hang out place- business hotel only. Visit room twice day. AM clean up and at night turn bed down .

We stayed at a premier double room. The room is quiet, luxury, and clean. Close to everything in Gaslamp. A/C is quiet.

Classic downtown hotel!

Pros: Great staff, comfortable beds, large rooms and great location.
Cons: Less expensive parking or free parking. I'd rather have you raise the room rate by $10.00 and not charge for parking. Great advertisement!
Location: Across from Horton Plaza in downtown San Diego. Can walk through downtown and Gaslamp Quarter. Easy to walk to all restaurants, bars and shopping.
The Westgate is a classy, historic hotel that's in a great location in downtown. Across from Horton Plaza, it's very convenient to walk around downtown. The rooms are large, beds are comfortable and service is outstanding. I've stayed in downtown numerous times at many different hotels, at the Westgate is among the best! We had the best maid ever! When we got back to our room, she had emptied all of our travel bags (toiletries) and have them beautifully arranged on the bathroom counter and the room was immaculate! 2 rooms share a common hallway (behind a locked door) which was great because we stayed with another couple and we could have both our main room doors open if we wanted to and have a common area. Can't wait to go back and stay at The Westgate again.

Very Nice Hotel in the heart of San Diego

Pros: Quiet
We loved the private hallway space between the room and the hall ways. The hotel's elegance added to the relaxed feeling we had during our stay.

the west gate was an excellent experience, the only complaint, was the uncomfortable bed. I was definitely restless in San Diego for my trip.

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet
The West gate had great customer service and made me feel welcomed and comfortable.

staff rude and disruptive

Pros: lovely views
we spent our wedding night at the westgate following our wedding on a hornblower yacht. i had two rooms reserved...one for us, and one for my sister to stay in with my teenage daughhter and her friend. the situation was explained before hand and i asked that we be able to cjeck into both rooms before hand so that the groom and i wouldnt be disturbed. my husband to be showed up with his best man before the ceremony to check in to both rooms...the office staff was so convmced they were checking a gay couple into the marriage suite that they failed to complete checkin for both rooms...too busy gawking...result being, when my sister tried to get i to the rom, they wouldnt let her check in without me coming down to the lobby...still in gown...to check her in. i was not happy...the front lobby staff was still rude to me, insistant that they were in the rig to have called me down to put the ten dollars service charge on my card. im sure theyre great if you ask nothing of them, but simply checking in for two rooms and asking a key for one be left at the desk was too much to ask. The quality inn at el cajon was better service and half the price the facility was beautiful and we enjoyed our night, but the disruption after being carried over the thresh hold and snuggling my new husband was unnecessary and rude, especially when the situation had been explained carefully to them previously and upon check in. it was pride weekend, so i hope gay couples werent all subjected to this treatment based on my husband and his best mans treatment!!!!!
