Staff was friendly and helpful. Great location and beautiful views from the restaurant and rooftop deck. There is no view from city view rooms so that description is misleading. This hotel is basically a secured motel with a hotel front. Very overpriced.

Less light and no water and no glass to drink wate

One lamp not working and not repaired. No water. And wending machine too expensive. Felt sick with less water consumption. Hotels take so much they should buy water in bulk. And supply for free. Or sell it for cheap. Or else customers will suffer from headache and not enjoy their planned trip.

Worst Night's Sleep

I had an early wake up scheduled to accommodate my early morning flight, but the insensitive clod in the room next to mine brought 7 loud guests back to the room at 3 AM. They were outside my door, talking and smoking, for nearly an hour. After asking them twice to take it somewhere else, I called the front desk who eventually got them to leave.

Thank you for choosing the Porto Vista Hotel. We are sorry to hear that you did not receive a best nights sleep during your recent visit. As it is out of our hands what all guests do, we would always react to any disturbing behavior promptly. We are pleased to know that once you gave us a call we were able to handle the situation. Feel free to contact the front desk anytime, we have someone there 24/7, so you don't have to deal with any confrontation. We hope that you will return knowing that we will gladly respond and assist any situation you have. Thank you again for your feedback. Best, PVH Management

Ode to Rob

Overall, wonderful location and very clean hotel. We ended staying for two extra nights and ended booking a different room for each. Rob, among many others, was extremely helpful and invaluable in convincing us to extend our trip in SD and specifically in Porta Vista. Going directly through the hotel you can get a free bfast and free valet parking. Rooms were decently spacious and each has its own charm. You're with in a mile of all the exciting things on the shore and it seems to be a safe neighbourhood to walk around in at night. Another bonus - if you drive around enough, you can find free parking esp on evenings and weekends. Down side...valet attendants is a hit or miss. Some are nice enough, others...are a work in process. Don't let them impact your experience of the location. Front desk staff are wonderful. Housekeeping is extremely nice. Porto Vista

Love this hotel. My only issue is that it takes way too long to check in. They can never find my reservation when I book through Travelocity and Ive always booked days and hours ahead of arrival. This last time was the worst. I stood there for 20 mins while the lady looked for it. Then it took another 5 mins to get checked in and no apology or anything from the lady.

Okay hotel

Hotel was not friendly at all. We had a package and were not happy with the extra $25 charge per day.

So-So experience

Porto Vista hotel looks very nice online.  However, the rooms are tiny and extremely humid, even with the A/C running all the time.  The bathroom never dried out, and we were there for 4 days!  The rooms all overlook the parking garage, which is not really nice.  There is no pool or spa, so hopefully you'll be out and about.  One night at around 2 a.m., there was a very loud fight in the hallway (not sure which floor), which could be heard everywhere.  The front desk sent security and they subsequently called the police.  Thought it would be more of a family hotel.   The restaurant on the premises (The Glass Door) is very nice and has a heated patio looking out towards the coast; however, it is very expensive, and the service, though friendly, was extremely slow (it took 30 minutes to get our starters!).   Porto Vista is a short drive to the Gaslamp District (not walking distance), which was nice, but for the price, I would have liked a nicer place.

Nice location, average property.

Nice location in Little Italy. We checked in early and were informed that our room would not be available for a couple of hours. that turned out to be 6 hours. This is an old property with few apparent upgrades over the years. Feather pillows not available. Motel like entry which increases the noise level as people and staff roll by. They do have a nice bar and small bistro with nice views.
