Parking is $36 dollars

The room had view into a brick wall. Parking is almost $40. Overrated hotel with small rooms, nothing special. The lobby was the highlight.

Dear Ivan, Thank you very much for your recent stay and for your review. We are sorry to hear that you were not more pleased with your guest room and overall stay. We understand that parking costs can certainly add to travel expenses for our guests, and we want to assure you that we are committed to keeping our valet parking rate lower (currently at $32) than surrounding hotels. You are correct in that the quieter rooms on the back side of the hotel do not have city views; if you should return for another stay, please feel free to ask for a room on the front side of the hotel for a better view. Thank you again for your valuable feedback, and we wish you all the best. Warmest regards, Debra Sanderlin, General Manager

Great hotel

Clean comfortable room. Great downtown location in easy walking distance to good restaurants, the civic theater and shopping. We had tickets to the lion king. Walking from our hotel was closer than the civic parking structure. Wonderful caring hotel staff.

Cute hotel close to downtown , harbor, petcopark ,

Cute hotel, super friendly staff, close to downtown, shopping, Petco Park, restaurants. Terrible gym. Might as well not advertise a fitness center . Wifi didn't work.

Thank you very much for your 5-star review! I apologize for the small fitness room; we are planning to improve that very soon. Also, we did experience WiFi difficulties recently during an outage by Cox, and we're sorry it was not in our control to fix. I hope it wasn't too much of an inconvenience during your stay with us. We are very glad you enjoyed your stay and that you found our downtown location to be convenient, and our staff to be friendly and helpful. We hope your travels bring you back our way again soon; we look forward to welcoming you back! Warmest regards, Debra Sanderlin, General Manager

Boutique Hotel with Excellent Staff

Pros: Service
Cons: Condition of mattress, rooms and fitness center.
Location: Near gaslamp district and close to many things including N. Harbor Drive. Just 10 minutes away from San Diego's Sea World and Whale Watching boat tour
My overall rating is 3.5 stars. While the front desk staff's service was excellent, the place is a bit worn down and mattress seemed aged/old and has lost its firmness. In what seems to be a cabinet for a small refrigerator, it was vacant with no back panel which gave me the impression that they used to make refrigerators available in the past. When I stay at a hotel for more than couple nights, I like to have a refrigerator to keep my water bottles cold and miscellaneous food items fresh. I couldn't believe their fitness center - a tiny room with couple treadmills and hardly any equipments and not exactly conducive for more than 1 to 2 people to use at a time. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who does not need the amenities mentioned in this review as it is conveniently located in gaslamp district and again, staff's excellent service makes up for other areas where they lack. Their restaurant was nice although it's with just one bartender serving the entire bar area plus the general dining area. As a foodie, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their food and this is another aspect that makes it worthwhile to stay with this hotel when visiting downtown San Diego.

Clean, modern, spacious hotel close to EVERYTHING!

Pros: Modern and very clean
Cons: Nothing that had to do with the actual hotel itself.
Location: Location was perfect for all exciting things near by.
The room was spacious, clean and modern. The staff was friendly and quick to answer any requests. The location is absolutely perfect; three blocks from all of the best restaurants, bars, a 10 min walk to the beach and a 10 min walk to the convention center. Pricing was perfect and we are definitely going to be staying at this hotel on our next trip!

Great price and location, but not special

Pros: Location was great. Close to rails and Gas Lamp.
Cons: TV, Bathroom prison door, and maybe the staff can at least ACT as though any inconvenience upon a guest disappoints them also
Location: As above, the location is the best selling feature of this hotel. five short blocks from Union Station, and the Gas Lamp is even closer!
We arrived on a Thursday at about 2:40 pm to a room that wasn't ready. I had booked two rooms for another couple and us and had requested they be near. Maybe if I hadn't asked for that there may have been a ready room. Waited for 45 minutes. The front desk lady didn't seem as concerned about it as we were. The lobby is reasonably appointed. In the two-double-bed room, two queens are not available, there isn't much room, but it was adequate. The bathroom was decent size, but when we closed the pocket door, it stuck closed! We pushed and pulled for several minutes to no avail, then my wife kicked it, she was inside, and it rolled open just fine. We DIDN'T close the door fully again. The hotel supplied a couple pairs of earplugs, for the construction across the way, but the noise wasn't that bad. The TV didn't get nearly as many channels as the Guide showed on the laminated card on the desk. Another disappointment was that ice was only available on the 3rd and 8th floors, we were on the 5th. We ate dinner at the First Ave. restaurant within the hotel. Our party of five had no particular complaints with food or service. It was VERY slow, so we got a lot of attention. The prime rib, ordered med. rare, was done medium...or so. My wife enjoyed her meal, meatloaf, as did the other three diners. The Gas Lamp is a quick walk down the street and a walk that is WELL WORTH the savings over hotels IN the Gas Lamp.
