Not your average 3 star hotel

My room was absolutely not up to par. It smelled old. The bathroom floor was dirty. There was What looked like a bedbug on top of the sheet. I moved into another room that had bugs. I checked the room out and the bathroom had a roach just sitting in the bath tub. I pulled the sheets back and there was hair all over it. I called down to the front desk and the attendant brought me new sheets. I told him I couldn't stay in the room it was disgusting. I had 2 rooms and bugs were in both. He told me, "You aren't the only one who has complained about bugs in the room." Well why would you continue to try in out guests in rooms that have bugs? I was given an option between 2 other rooms. In the not bates motel side but in the tower. Smelled a whole lot better but there was still hair. I was so disppointed. One room had a king and the other had a queen size bed, with a fridge more space and a nasty refrigerator. The bathroom in both were not okay covered with some type of caulking and when you flushed water leaked out of it. I would highly recommend that you do not stay here. Beware! You may take roaches and bed bugs home with you. Very disappointed in this hotel.

Dirty hotel far from Riverwalk area

Pros: THe staff are friendly and the valet service is great.
Cons: Clean it.
Location: Seedy location at end of Riverwalk area
Upon checking into the room, we found fresh blood on the pillow case, so much mold in the bathroom, spills that had never been wiped off the dresser, one of the only 2 elevators wasn't working for 4 days. The area isn't safe for families to walk around the streets. THe first morning the room was cleaned, the washcloths were removed and never brought back. Towels were never brought back. I called for a wakeup call the night before we had to catch a very early flight and the call never came at all. I just couldn't get over the filth. Walking in the room without shoes left our feet black. The soda machine didn't work. We woke up to a flooded bathroom floor from a leak in the ceiling.

DONT stay here.

Pros: Good location to river walk.
Room smelled like locker room. The bed had little hairs inside covers. Way out dated needs some serious updating.

Experienced travelers beware

Cons: Redo the bathrooms
Location: No restaurants near by and it's very dark in the area when walking to the hotel on surface streets. It's a bit of a walk to main area of riverwalk
The hotel was fine, the room was fine but the bathroom was not. I almost put shower shoes on to take a shower. Some kind of something that dripped was on the walls. There was hardly any room for toiletries and zero room for makeup. The lighting in the bathroom was bad, forget doing makeup in there. No place to put hairdryer or iron when doing hair. If you are one of those people that need room and lighting skip this hotel. Everything else was ok, their restaurant is a snack bar. The only delivery is fast food pizza after the snack bar closes. They are located on the very far end of the riverwalk (it's a bit of a walk). The staff was friendly enough. There was no recommendations, list of restaurants or things to do or see in the room or from the staff. Only a map of the riverwalk area was given to us that had no real information on it for eating or touring. I know I will not be staying there in the future.

Hotel needs TLC

As everyone in previous rating indicated, this is an out dated hotel. The reviews were pretty accurate . I happen to book a last minute get away., I got what I paid for. This was my first time in San Antonio. Hotel is about 16 min from the airport, approx $25 taxi ride. The hotel looks to be in an industrialize area. There aren't any restaurants or grocery stores in the area. You're out of luck if you forgot something and don't have a car. I don't mind walking, the Alamo is a 10-15 min walk. There is a trolley where you can get a $3 day pass. Make sure to look at the map and be comfortable getting on and off. The hotel had a grill service for food. I ordered chicken wings and fries. The wings and fries taste as if they were microwaved. I got sick from the food . There was a nice little Mexican restaurant that is 15 minutes walking distances. The food was worth the walk and half the price I paid for the grilled food. The fitness center was decent. You have to request access. The pool, ok, I didn't go in bc it was chilly out and I was really out walking around and exploring. They do have to spend more time cleaning, especially the bathrooms. There was a lot of soap scum and the bathroom door was dirty you can see finger prints . Again, I spent little time in my hotel room bc I was exploring. If you're looking for hotel amenities with your visit, look somewhere else. There is a river walk entrance right along side the hotel. I didn't walk

Visit with college kid

Pros: I loved room location; I was on the 3rd floor, near the back of the property, which made it very quiet. I also loved the view of the Riverwalk.
Cons: I have to say that most staff were pleasant but not overly so, and not extremely helpful. Upon checkin, I was not provided any info and had to ask.
Location: On quiet end of Riverwalk and walking distance if you don't mind somewhat of a walk to major Riverwalk attractions. Great for Tobin Center events.
I travel to San Antonio frequently since my daughter attends college in the city and have generally stayed on the "busy" end of the Riverwalk or at bed-and-breakfast establishments. This trip, I decided to do something different and stay on the other end of Riverwalk and check out the Tropicana. My daughter has had several college events there and thought I might enjoy the retro vibe. Overall, the stay was fine. This is not a luxury property and should not be considered as such, but it is a good, clean, safe place to stay if you are not looking for 5-star (of even 4-star) accommodations. Price is fair for the hotel amenities. I loved the location of my room, the large wall of windows, overlooking the Riverwalk. The pool area and Riverwalk patios are nice and the poolside firepit seemed to be a large draw on the night I sat poolside to relax. The hotel's Riverwalk patios are a nice place to relax, people watch or enjoy a cup of coffee or evening beverage. The hotel has a small breakfast spot with reasonably priced breakfast buffet, although I did not sample the food so can not attest to the quality. Many people seemed to be eating there, especially on weekend, so am assuming it is decent. There is also a small grill/store in the lobby offering snacks, drinks, limited menu items, etc. Again, I did not order, but prices were reasonable. Staff was pleasant, but not overly friendly or helpful. It would be nice if more emphasis was placed on friendliness, especially at checkin.

Not what it was a few years ago

Pros: In the end, the bed was comfortable and clean- pretty much all we were using our room for was to sleep because we were out and about all weekend.
Cons: Updating the amenities and touching up wallpaper (or ripping it down and painting)
Location: Not a bad distance from the heart of the River Walk and you pay about half the price ($150 vs. $300-400) a night to stay.
My husband and I remember our initial stay back in 2012 VERY differently from what it ended up being in 2017. This hotel seems to have gone a bit downhill. The room was OK, but you can tell the hotel in general needs updating. Wallpaper was peeling off in certain places, lobby smelled like somebody was trying to cover a bowel movement up with Lysol (smelled like this all weekend), and the first room we were put in didn't have a thermostat/remote to control the air conditioner and they were hesitant to move us to another room...tried to get us to "tough it out" for the first night and they would move us to a new room the next day.

A night on the Riverwalk

Pros: Interesting layout and, bright, and great sitting areas, inside and outside.
Cons: Ban smoking.
Location: Just across the street from the Riverwalk. We also enjoyed a nice night-time walk around the area.
A superb location - just steps from the quiet portion of the Riverwalk. We found a terrific restaurant, as part of a hotel, just a couple blocks toward the busy section. Nice hotel, but wish we could've been steered toward a room higher up with a balcony. I'm all about coffee on a balcony with a view in the morning. :-)

Hotel is close to Riverwalk.

When we first got there. Room smelled musty almost like there was mold. A/C didn't work well. While in the room you can hear the neighbors next door. Walls are very thin. Hotel overall is nice. Close to Riverwalk and restaurants. Very easy to walk to many places. Had an overall good experience, but with the musty mold smell from the A/C it made it kind of terrible.
