Hotel stay was a good value - great hot breakfast.

Pros: Clean and quiet. Well working hvac system.
Cons: Hallway ceiling water system. They were working on it during our stay and am sure they will take care of it.
Hotel is older but fairly well kept. Rooms were clean, heating/cooling functioned well, had technology chargers in the hotel and clock radios that enabled mobile phones to be laid on them to amplify the sound/music (seems like they were trying to modernize a bit). The hot breakfast was better than at a lot of the chains (Hampton, Holiday Inn, etc.). They were working on a leaking water system in the hallway on our floor, but it didn't affect or interfere with our stay. We received a great value for the price. I would stay here again.

Hotel under construction - Need to focus more on customer service

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet
Cons: need more customer service
Checked in on Monday -- Believe I was the only person on floor 2. They placed me all the way at the end of the hall??? I was directly across from the washing/drying machine and the pool. Wednesday someone checked in late and left early 4:00am. How do i know this? They placed this person right next to me on an entirely empty floor. Thursday we had more guest check in and they began to use the pool late into the night. I forgot to mention that I paid for a room upgrade so that I could see the Rock river, being in the last room on that side you get a fantastic view of a rusted roof from the last house on the water.

I felt short-changed and deceived by the hotel's description.

Pros: Free breakfast
Cons: No free Internet, dated furnishings, isolate jacuzzi from bedroom
Everything from furniture to window treatments were dated. During check-in, the staff was pleasant and covered the essentials. During check-off, it was difficult to find the staff and, when I did, they seemed half awake. They also attempted to double-bill me (charged credit card twice) and I found the error after I arrived home. When brought to thier attention, they did credit my account and sent an email acknowledgement. This hotel is in desperate need of a refresh or they should reduce/adjust thier pricing.

Great Staff, hotel a bit worn

Pros: Free breakfast, Free Internet, accommodating staff
Cons: pool, looking worn
Staff was great, though overworked. Desk clerk who checked us in at 9pm was still on duty well after 9am, repeated each day. Assigned room did not match description from web site reservation ("suite" and "whirlpool" did not apply). When I pointed this out to desk we were offered a room that had jacuzzi in place of sofa, which we declined. Place is looking a little worn. Carpet once was nice but now stained in numerous places; stairwells and elevator have a dusty smell (my kids would plug their noses). Pool was okay but smallish, not good for small kids, and not real clean. Pool deck hadn't been swept for some time, and pool bath was not pretty. Poor housekeeping staff had to tell us if we needed clean towels, they'd have to wash those we had and bring them back later (which they did with a smile). We enjoyed the breakfasts, though Sunday morning was crowded after 3 different Sat night weddings. Room baths were very nice and clean and looked newer than the rest of room. Kids liked the beds. "People were nice" they said. Shuttle driver was most accommodating. If looking for something to do, take in the Anderson Japanese Garden. Kids loved it. Stayed June 2011

Nice for the price

Nice 3-star stay for a decent price after discount (we booked day before stay). No view from the ""river view"" room due to overgrown trees that need to be thinned. Staff was minimal but nice. Hotel appears to have been better once, but is still ok. Be sure to get your breakfast vouchers when you check in. Breakfast buffet was ok but simple, and if you don't have your voucher, expensive. They were cordial about correcting our missing voucher situation after presenting us with a big bill for a few bagles. Tables were set with nice napkins etc. and staff was there to pour coffee and take orders from the menu if more than the buffet was wanted. We stayed here to attend the Chicago Air Show. The one hour drive into Chicago was easy from here on a Saturday morning.

Right on the Rock

We were really happy with our stay. The rooms exceeded expectations and the river views are really nice. To often hotels in city's like Rockford lack character and are the same old generic "hotel by the interstate". The Lexington was different and alot of attention had been paid to details, both in the hotel and in the staff. The bar, Cliffbreakers, is also very nice with a magnificent deck that overlooks the Rock River and the bridge. An unexpectedly nice view and a great amenity.

Cliffbreakers is a vacation heartbreaker!

The front desk staff was unfriendly and did not provide a hotel map or explain any ammenitites such as breakfast buffet, restaurant, and pool. No information was provided in the room either. Once we found the breakfast buffet we found that the food was the worst we have ever tasted and the one waiter for the whole dining room could not keep plates, glasses, and coffee available for the guests. The room was okay but the beds were uncomfortable and the bathroom was never properly stocked with towels. We had four people and they would only stock for one or two. The first day the pool was locked all day because they forgot to unlock it and we had to track down a staff person to unlock it the second day. The pool area was unclean and dead bugs floated from the bottom of the pool to the top while we were swimming. A door that should have been unlocked to the pool deck was locked and trapped two family members outside until they climbed a privacy fence to the parking lot and entered through the front door. There is only one elevator and you had to take the stairs during the times that the cleaning staff was moving their carts from one floor to another. There was no express check-out available and there was a long line to check out with only one staff person at the desk. I called the desk for a wake up call and never got it the next morning. Overall I got the impression that noone cares and it just wasn't a nice place to stay. Skip this one if you are going to Rockford.

One of the most unique hotels in the midwest.

Our experience at Cliffbreakers was wonderful - from the ambience to the rooms to the food. They have lots of beautiful antiques which gives the hotel a European feel. Many of the rooms are also unique - ours was 2-levels with lots of space and beautiful views of the river. The meals were delicious and had a gourmet flare. The Sunday brunch is not to be missed.
