Mediocre 1st All Inclusive

Clean rooms and property, mostly European vacationers that smoke, Free wifi rarely works, no coke products, pool towels only available by beach, not try the best food in the main buffet, great food in the specialty restaurants, staff are stand offish and rude at front desk, nice staff at bars, eating, and activities, & beach water has many waves and undercurrent. Would not recommend!

Great hotel on the beach!

We loved our recent stay at the Viva Maya! Every room has a balcony (ours overlooked the pool & beach). Staff is very nice. Lots of activities throughout the day if you don't plan to leave the resort. That would be a shame though as there are so many day trips available. Nightly activities, 24 hr bar & food options. LOTS of beach chairs with umbrellas, dedicated smoking areas throughout. Be sure to make reservations at the restaurants when you arrive as they fill up fast. Only negative were the pillows- they felt like they were stuffed with paper- SO lumpy! We'll bring our own next time. Will definitely come back!

Great staff and excellent beach

Everyone at Viva Wyndham Maya is so friendly. The check in and check out process was the easiest we have ever had. All of the staff are so friendly and helpful. Service was excellent. The beach was beautiful. The pool area was nice..just wish there was a swim up bar. The food was good and the drinks were excellent. The location is great with a short walk to shopping. We would stay there again.

Good but not great--Pool CLOSED

Pros: Cleanliness of the room. Nice AC in rooms
Cons: Wifi needs to be improved Pool needs to be open (especially in JUNE) AC needed in main dining room or even in the Italian restaurant.
Location: Small shopping area & Starbucks outside of the hotel
We were really looking forward to 5 days and 4 nights in Play Del Carmen, sitting by the pool and drinking cocktails....but to our dismay, the main pool was under massive construction. All day into early night, it was noisy and dusty due to concrete cutting and jackhammering. The pool was completely covered by ugly sheets of plywood. This unfortunately did not help with the noise! The "adults only" pool at the back of the resort was nice but was by no means adults only. There were kids in that pool at all times. Probably because the pool up front was shut down, not sure. The adults only pool bar was nice, but closed down for good at 6 or 7pm every night. After that, the pool was quiet and quite boring. We were extremely disappointed to not be able to sit by the pool and see the ocean. The shows were nice but after that there wasn't much to do. The resort was very quiet and dark after about 8pm. The grounds were very clean and the room was very clean and very nice. The food was mediocre at best...and seemed to be different variations of the same stuff. We were able to get 2 reservations at the nicer restaurants on site and enjoyed them. Overall, the hotel is very clean and nice. The people were nice and helpful, but it lacked that extra something. It was not a "Fun hotel" or a lively hotel. It was calm and quiet and probably best suited for families. Also, there are no waiters or bars close to the beach, so be prepared to take a drink with you.

Had a wonderful time

Pros: Our view was beautiful!
Cons: The water pressure in the shower. We would get the temp perfect and then all of a sudden it would go hot, so had to do a little dance in the shower.
Location: We went down to 5th ave and was completely blown away by how many shops there were. We also did the Explor, that was fun.
We arrived at 9 am and we were having to wait for check in time of 3pm. But they gave a us a wristband so we could still eat, drink and wonder around. And Ruben, our lifesaver, saw us sitting in the lobby while it was raining outside. So he went and found us a room that was ready and we were able to get a room at noon. The food was what we expected, in the sense that they have to cater to a lot of nationalities. They buffet was open almost non-stop. The drinks were a little weak but again probably making sure no one gets too drunk. We had a wonderful time and everyone was very friendly and helpful. Only had a probably with one bartender that said he would blend my drink this time but next time he wouldn't.

2nd Time at Viva Wyndham Maya Resort

Pros: the beach was clean and had great waves
we had stayed at Viva Wyn dham Maya Resort - All Inclusive 2010 for the 1st time and enjoyed our stay. we were able to go between the Viva Wyn dham Maya and Viva Wyndham Azteca and enjoy the restaurants and buffets. this year we went to the Azteca to try the buffet and was told we could not eat there and we also were told we could have one drink from the bar but no more. I was very disappoint with how they handled this. we also were very disappointed with the buffet at they Maya it was not very good and had the same stuff almost every meal. the pool food was even worse. it was like it was the left overs from the buffet the day before. the service however was really good. the buffet had really nice staff as did the pool bar. if you go you must have the bartender Edar (pool side) he is very personable and it was a joy to have him help us.

Needs an update

Rooms are in dire need of an update. Paint chipping, rust around slider. Our room was supposed to have either a king bed or two doubles. We got one double😐 The room was the smallest I've ever stayed in at an all inclusive. Our room had an adjoining door which made it sound like the neighbors were actually in our room! The noise was ridiculous. We complained and both times they said they would send security, they never did. After the third time of being woke up at 5am by a screaming out of control child we asked to be moved. After talking to two different people and waiting 4 hrs we were moved to a much nicer, much quieter room with an actual king bed. Food at buffet is ok, you can always find something to eat. Ala carts were good. We ate at Mexican, Oriental and international. Pool area and beach were always clean. Bartenders and wait staff were always polite. We did not see any wait staff on the beach, we always had to walk up to the bar ourselves, same at the pool. This hotel is barely 3 star b/c of the rooms. I wouldn't stay here again but if you don't care about the room and are getting a good deal it will be fine for you.

Pros: The beach, and the location near Playa Del Carmen.
Cons: Food quality, and the buffet room.
Great facility on the beach in Playacar. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and is constantly working hard to keep the grounds looking nice and the guests happy. The beach is beautiful - yes there is a lot of seaweed, but the staff worked hard to keep our section of beach clean. Overall, the food and alcohol weren't that great. They only have one beer on tap, Dos Equis, and it was very carbonated, to the point where I couldn't drink it. The mixed drinks were potent enough, but they used very cheap liquor, then made the drinks very sweet to hide that nasty taste. After the first couple of days I basically stopped ordering drinks at the resort. The food in the specialty restaurants was quite good, but the buffet was mediocre, especially for dinner. Also, there is no air conditioning in the buffet room, so it was very hot and humid in there. I will say they did make a great cappuccino, and would even put it in a Styrofoam cup if you wanted to enjoy it on the beach. The shows were entertaining, but not very well-rehearsed. I think they have a lot of turnover, and it showed during the shows. The single "lead" dancers were pretty good, but the chorus of dancers were never in sync, and it was obvious that some were watching the others and trying to follow along.
