Awesome Family Destination

Pros: Great selection of food, infinity pool a main pool, service
Cons: It would be nice if one of the hot tubs allow kids under parents supervision. During chilly days it would be great to be in warm water with your kid.
Location: Hotel is conveniently located not far from the airport. We had a 2-year old, so no excursions this time.
We had a fantastic experience with Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort. We stayed at Ventus section, which was brand new, and a super nice gentleman at the front desk gave us a room with a hot tub. The room was huge, and looked phenomenal! The property of the resort looks absolutely beautiful and is very well-maintained. Everything was amazing, our room, service, constantly smiling staff, pools, nightly entertainment. The food was the best I have ever tried in the Caribbean so far. It's not a huge resort where you need a shuttle (even though there is one) to take you from the room to the lobby, or from the room to the beach. Everything is very close to each other, and will take you no more than 5-7 minutes walk between two opposite ends of the resort. The beach was a bit rocky, but the hotel staff is doing a great job by pulling those stones out on a daily basis. Swimming shoes will work just fine. Overall, great time! So, highly recommend to anyone who wants to stay at a nice hotel with great food, service and entertainment.

Sales Pitch when you walk in the door.

So very mixed feelings about this week. Room-air conditioning was sketchy, didn't maintain a consistent comfortable temp. Hot water in the shower was non existent at points during the week. Had to get new room keys everyday, if they are near your cell phone they deactivated. Meals-Dinner reservations get filled up very quickly despite the restaurants being half full when you get there. Wines are awful. Buffets for breakfast and lunch were good, nice variety. Dinner buffets were mediocre. Fitness center-was nice and clean and very busy in the mornings! Great yoga and spin classes with Dalia in the mornings. Bars- Pretty sweet and often weak drinks. Lacks consistency , asking for the same drink at 3 different bars netted me three different drinks. Staff- staff was great! Rooms cleaned well every day, bartenders very friendly!

Location: It is an isolated hotel, some things can be done in the little town of Puerto Morelos, especially if you like to try local food and contact with peopl
Just like other hotels at the Riviera, access is a little difficult but the place is worth seeing.

Our stay at El Cid Marina

Pros: Cleanliness, lots of food choices, very friendly staff
Cons: The time share predators
Location: Didn't really check anything out in the area. Did go to Isla Mujeres which, outside of swimming with the Dolphins, was a waste of a day.
This is a beautiful all inclusive family resort. 5 restaurants, 4 of which you have to make reservations for but the buffet restaurant is open most hours of the day which a lot of food choices. The staff are very friendly & willing to help in any way possible. Loved this resort. The only turn off for me was, and this holds true with many locations these days, is the immediate approach by a "time share" staffer to set you up with a resort tour. Which is nothing more than a sales pitch to get you to buy into their points system. It's not a time share per say but it's I similar concept. BTW, that also happens as soon as you're about to leave the airport. You're approached by people as if they're trying to give you great deals for the sites but it's upon you visiting their "time share" resort. Huge turn off for me. Outside of that crap, I highly recommend this resort. If you do go, don't sign up for the shuttle service offered through the travel websites. Way overpriced. Taxi to the resort for 4 people should have been about $40 US each way. I spent $128 US round trip for the shuttle service & had to share the ride on the way back & had to leave 1 hour earlier so they wouldn't have to make two trips. I definitely give this resort 5 stars.

a beautiful resort in a beautiful setting

Pros: See above. Also, there are so many activities, excursions, programs, and performances that anyone has an abundance of things to do all day aavailable
Cons: for older people, it would be nice to have a pool for adults that is quiet and only with no activities. They have a spa area, but I would like a pool
Location: too many to mention--Tulum, nature parks, snorkeling and diving, cenotes, Playa del Carmen and Cancun, Cozumel, and Isla Mujeres to name some.
We enjoy Puerto Morelos because of its quaint, authentic small Mexican town flavor; sometimes we rent a condo for a few weeks, and sometimes we like the ease of an all-inclusive resort. This was our third time at the Marina El Cid Resort, so we must think highly of it. The staff are very friendly and caring, doing their best to ensure you get the most out of your stay. The amazing tropical landscaping throughout the resort and the blue, blue Caribbean waters ensure us a restful and relaxing vacation. Since we have been to the Yucatan coast many times, we do not usually partake in the numerous excursions offered; merely soak up the ambiance and beauty of the location.

Great amenities for the price

Comfortable beds, great food, beautiful location, gorgeous room and landscaping make this hotel well worth the price you pay. The only cons that are worth mentioning are that it took numerous requests before we got a crib that was requested with our booking. This was our 7th trip to the area and we normally stay at higher end places- I was surprised at how well this hotel compared to them. The main difference between this hotel and others (such as the Excellence resorts, the Palace resorts and Secrets) is that the level of service just wasn't quite as high. You honestly feel like royalty at some of those places whereas at Marina el Cid the staff are nice but many almost ignore you. Also, the dinner reservation system is kind of annoying and confusing. Most nights we ended up at the buffet which still had great food but just isn't the same experience as a sit down restaurant. Overall I would be happy to stay there again.

Nice hotel; short on customer service

We stayed at Marina El Cid last week and our reviews are mixed. Property- lovely, but big. Be prepared to walk a lot. They did have golf carts that could take you from location to location and they were a lot of fun. Beach- for all practical purposes, non-existent. The beach itself was a very narrow strip of sand, but it was unusable because of copious amounts of seaweed that are coming off a dead zone in the ocean. They expect this condition to last for years. Smell- because of the seaweed, at times there was a very bad smell in the air, especially by the "premium" rooms by the infinity pool. Couldn't even sit on our balcony at times. Pools- lovely and clean. There's a fun water slide that can be used by adults as well as children. Food- very good quality. However, they do not have enough servers in the buffet. Items were constantly running out and not refilled and there was no one around to even ask to get a refill. The seafood restaurant was excellent. An amazing appetizer bar at the French(?) restaurant. Customer service- we had a maintenance issue one day and we tried calling both housekeeping and customer service and neither answered the phone. Worst of all, kids went to Coco Bongo with someone who came to the hotel to sell them admission with 2-way transportation. Their ride back to the hotel didn't show and there were no other cab. When the kids called the hotel at 3:30 am, the hotel did NOTHING to help, leaving kids stranded.
