5th time we stayed at the King David - best ever.

Pros: Location, gardens, views,
The King David is the only authentic, luxury hotel in Jerusalem. It now has competition from 3 nearby luxury hotels and it is obviously upping its game to stay competitive. In the past, staff has been somewhat snooty, not very welcoming or helpful, but that has all changed. We were warmly welcomed back, upgraded to a bigger room with large balcony overlooking the gardens and pool and the Old City, and were very well taken care of, every step of the way. We booked for 4 nights and expected to store our luggage with the concierge before flying out at midnight our last day in Jerusalem, but when the weather forecast was for continued daytime highs of more than 100 degrees, we inquired about getting a smaller, less expensive room for our final day, so we could swim, change clothing, shower, enjoy air conditioning, etc, that last day. We were offered our same room, for $300, rather than the $1100+ the room goes for, and were thrilled to be so accommodated. Every day we were asked how we were enjoying our stay, what else the hotel could do for us, etc. We couldn't have been better taken care of, our best stay ever. The nearby David Citadel, Mamilla and Waldorf Astoria Hotels are newer and glitzier, but The King David is the real thing, elegant, historical and now truly welcoming.
