Had a nice time

We had a nice time. The hotel near the beach, the view was beautiful, the entertaiment was awesome. All inclusive is the best, it makes me feel privileged. The food was good, exept the steak. The steak always tasted bad, burned in the outside and hard in the inside. I recomend to have a separate area for smokers, they were all around, its so anoying, even the room smelled like smoke eventhough I asked for a nonsmoking room. Other than that we had a nice time, we enjoyed the music, I love the bachata music it made my boyfriend dance for the first time, he was so exited, so we had a nice time. Thank you Riu bachata.

I would go again.

This is my first time staying at a Riu, and although there were conflicting reviews everyone said "you can't go wrong at a Riu". They were right. The hotel was well run, the people were helpful, and the food was good. Some of the reviews said the beach was not nice but it certainly was adequate, nice sand, lots of chairs and well treed for shade if you wanted it. I was very disappointed in the wine. It tasted like they washed out the plastic bottle they poured it out of with some chemical that they forgot to rinse out. I'm a red wine drinker but I tried the white and rose and they were all the same. I bought 3 bottles at the gift store at $20 each, so if you are a wine drinker be prepared. The mattresses were pretty awful but I didn't expect it to be great so I was not disappointed. All in all it was a great week and I would go back in a minute.

Great Hotel, poor casino

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet, nice shows
Cons: casino
Only problem was the casino. There was some obvious cheating going on. Rest of the hotel was great

Very nice hotel, had a great time

was a great vacation, fun place to be 5 days was enough the entertainment guys were so nice and really made everybody enjoy thier time in the hotel, they were the best, so are most bartenders. The food is ok, there are 3 restaurant , 2 buffet and 1 that u need to make resarvetion for dinner. as for the alcohol the slushy drinks are very sweet, the mojitos are pretty good . well for an all inclusive hotel I would recomend this hotel to anybody, overall very nice and fun place to be.

Surpassed my Expectations

Pros: beach front, lots of pools, views
Cons: bed comfort
My girlfriend and I got onto the plane a bit worried based on the many very bad reviews on all the sites about this hotel. We got off the plane wishing we had bought a one way ticket. Yes a lot of that was having to go back to work and not having a beach and free drinks on our doorstep, but we was very happy with our week at the Riu Bachata. If you are going here expecting to enjoy the all inclusive drinks, make the best of the food buffets, relax and enjoy being out of your room. Then your only worry here will be do you start your morning at the pool, beach or breakfast. We were really happy with our stay and it surpassed our expectations. P.S. The 27 Charcos(Waterfalls) trip was great if you feel like seeing the jungle and jumping/riding down some waterfalls. It cost $55 dollars for the cab ride and 320 pesos/person for the guided trip.

It wasn't what I expected from the Riu hotels

Pros: Free breakfast
Cons: Nothing close
When I booked this hotel I thought the price was great, but when I got there I was a little disappointed. I guess I was expecting more coming from the Riu hotels, but the service wasn't great.

This hotel is worst things I ever tried!

Cons: Noisy
Food: the same all the time, I had diarrhea all the time as well as my friends(4 people ), Pool:Dirty, a lot of DRUNK people everywhere, Staff: Entertainment staff usually drunk and asking people to bring them drinks from bar.Beach : you need slippers because it's impossible to walk barefoot, a lot of rocks. Never again.

5 Star Hotel has to be a joke

My family left with opinion that we would never take chances with this hotel chain again. My friend’s family was shocked from day 1 to day 9 (last day). This hotel claims 5 stars. I am giving it at most 2.5 starts. Good: Scenic views, “waterfall” swimming pool, room service. Bad: food, no good restaurants, beaches (except Riu Mambo – the only good one but about 1 km away), service, rooms, staff, drinks. Food was of mediocre quality and in very poor selection. Most of the drinks were of very poor quality (extremely diluted), unless you specifically request from staff what drink you want and how you want it to be prepared. Drink dispensers in the room must be some kind of joke, they all are extremely diluted. In many cases staff is not in rush to assist you and on a number of times we never got what we ordered at all. Many staff members are often drunk and keep asking tourists to order a drink for them from the bar. The fans in the bathrooms were all disabled and in conjunction with very old air-conditioning it resulted in very wet air in the room all the time. No coffee maker or iron in the room. Fridge was very old and virtually could not cool down anything until it actually broke completely two days before we left. The swimming pool with a swim up bar is just disgusting, dirty, and every second day there was a number of very drunk people in there.

Ok Resort

My family and I just got back from Puerto Plata last week (4/09/10) and overall it was an OK experience. This is a family oriented resort which I like since I was travelling with 2 children, they had a blast since they love to be in the pool. However the activities were boring !!!!!! ... the shows at night are ok if you have nothing else to do. The resort is an a secluded area so the security is really on point. The food was HORRIBLE, we had to go outside the resort to have a decent meal, at least that was the case for me. If you are looking for a last minute deal then it is worth the money, if you really want to have a great experience I suggest you look at another resort. I love to go to the DR however I will not be staying at this Resort. Hope this helps! I wish I had done more research in advance! : /
