The experience at the property was good over all, just a short walk to the convention center. The only thing that pops in my mind was the one elevator, which nothing can really be done about that at this point. Other was everything went well, very happy my car wasn't broken into, that was a concern do to the location and the area.

The air conditioner in the room did not blow cold. More importantly, the door into the room had been trimmed down so much that there was a large gap between the door and the frame, letting a lot of light in. When I stuffed a towel into the gap I discovered that the top edge was hollow, meaning I could bend my fingers and insert them into the inside of the door. This is a fire code violation and a safety issue.

The hotel doesn't have a parking structure or provide compensated parking. This needs to be listed as it added $45 to our stay. We could have found a stay at other hotels providing parking for the same amount. We weren't able to compare apples to apples. The staff was professional and pleasant.

In very seedy area of town, open parking lot to street, $8 extra for parking!

Cons: Nothing close, Noisy, Poor breakfast, in very bad part of town.
I wanted inexpensive hotel for moving our child into UC Berkeley. This hotel is not good value at all. Its location is in bad part of town and they have you park on an open streetside lot adjacent to the hotel with only a chain around the perimeter. The street was strewn with trash. There was a crazy guy cursing profanity on the sidewalk, obviously had mental problem. With $8.00 extra for parking that require exact change, otherwise you won't get change. When we got to the room, we we shocked at how small it was and part of the ceiling was angled like it was a room in the attic. It was so cram without much room to maneuver around. They have one small,creaky elevator. There are other hotels around with better value. The staff didn't have much to work with eventhough they tried hard. This hotel should NOT get 3 Stars, not even two, in my openion. I will never stay there again and will not recommend anybody to stay there.

Deserves a two star rating and 911 on speed dail.

Cons: Nothing close, Noisy, unsafe area, very small room, unhelpful staff
Hotel so bad, we checked out 16mins after arriving. Unsafe area of downtown oakland, no parking for hotel guest. Broken car glass every where. Very small elevator, very small room, one double bed for two people. King size beds were available but the single staff worker in the whole hotel, wanted us to pay additional fee of $20. No mangement on site. Enter at your own risk. Hotel rating deserves a 2nd star.

Affordable and convenient

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet
Cons: nearby dinner options pretty limited
I had a "just fine" experience with the Clarion. My room was spacious and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful (although I would not recommend dining at the neighboring vegetarian-only Lotus Flower Chinese restaurant). I did have some difficulties with the broadband internet one afternoon, but by the time I returned that evening it was working again. Considering this hotel was half the price of others in the same area, I can't imagine why you wouldn't want to stay here!

Exceptional price and service - great stay!

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet, proximity to bart
Cons: No free Internet
Attended a conference at the convention center nearby and stayed for two nights. Hotel staff were really friendly and helpful. Great price for the quality and proximity to BART, convention center, etc.
