Pay top dollar to be at the top of Capri

Pros: See above.
Cons: See above.
Location: Hike up the footpath to Monte Solaro and skip the crowds on the chairlift. Go down to the public swimming area near Blue Grotto and get some wine.
The luxury at this hotel is authentic. It has a stunning infinity pool, maybe the best view on the island, a beautifully appointed deck and living room, and all the rest. There's a live pianist playing music in the lobby until midnight, they light real candles all over the place in tasteful lanterns at night, much of the food is harvested fresh from the hotels own garden, and all of the facilities are in excellent condition. Caesar Augustus fell short for us in three places, only two within their control. First was the service — maybe it was the language barrier, but we found that staffers didn't seem *happy* to help. Three times, while calling the concierge, they hung up on me before I was done asking all of my questions. One time, we had to call twice just to get a bottle of water. This brings me to my second point, which is price. It's a very nice hotel. It is extremely expensive. It's a unique place and a unique experience, but you will not feel like you are getting "value" for your money; and once in a while (see comments above) you won't even get what you think you're paying for. The final fatal flaw is that it's on the island of Capri. We did Capri in pretty much the least tourist-y way possible, but still, it's pretty much impossible to leave the hotel without being besieged by crowds, overpriced mediocre food, kitschy gift shops, and all of the other trappings of the tourist-overrun island. If this doesn't bother you (or if you don't leave the hotel), great!
