Nice for a holiday but not practical for parks

The place is wonderful, but not very practical for our trip. We wanted to stay at a hotel in Disney to be close to the parks. You have to take transportation from your cabin to a stop and then bus from there. We spent too much time on transportation, which was exhausting after a day a Park.

It was a great vacation!

I was a bit hesitant about our choice to stay at this resort. But our overall experience was great. There were 5 of us, so it was a little bit tight and I wouldn't recommend staying there with more people because there was only one bathroom. But from check-in to check-out it was a great experience. It was my daughter's birthday and they made her feel special from the moment we got off the bus. We had requested a cabin near a bus stop, and had that request met. Yes the cabin was old and the decor was "cabin quaint" but it was clean and comfortable. Even the pull out bed in the living room was comfortable. It was quiet and we saw deer, bunnies, and lizards which thrilled my kids. I had read other people's reviews that had complained about transportation, but we never had a problem. The longest we waited was 10 minutes and that was close to midnight. We could take the boat easily to Magic Kingdom which was nice. The restaurant was great in both service and food (we only ate there for breakfast). I would not recommend Mickey's Backyard BBQ especially for young children. While it was a great opportunity to get up close and personal with the characters, it was a free for all with many children left in tears and pushy parents knocking down other children to get a photo opp. The food was not great either. Definately a must miss. If you want an amazing dining encounter with characters go to Chef Mickeys! I would definately stay there again and appreciate Disney's signature service and hospitality!

Great place for family get together.

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet
Good place for the Family get together. The cabins was clean and made it easy to stay together. The kids and grand kids had plenty to do while we (Grand parents took it easy). Would make this a go back to place for the Family next time we get together. Easy to get to via road or air.

Beats the heck out of a hotel room!

Pros: Quiet
Cons: No free Internet
"Cabins" - trailers - at Ft. Wilderness are very spacious compared to a hotel room and allow you privacy, a kitchen where you can prepare your own food, and nice deck with picnic table and charcoal grill. Disney-provided transportation saves you the drive to and from the theme parks. I think this is the only place we'd stay when doing Disney World. Only drawbacks - rather cheap interior construction, lots of drawers are starting to lose their tracks, and there is very little closet/drawer space for clothes. Some sinks drip - everything is heavily ued, Light bulbs are the minimum brightness allowing you to see, so it's rather dark in there. There's only one bedroom with a bunk bed and twin bed, Murphy bed is in the living room area. Could be tough to get a good night's sleep if it's more than just a couple sharing the living space. But - staff were very nice and helpful, and we thoroughly enjoyed our accommodations. Would do it again! BTW - no wireless Internet and borderline AT&T cell reception. Hard-wired Internet available for the ridiculous price of $10.00/day.

Good option if you want a Disney hotel and need space

Pros: Quiet, roomy
Cons: Nothing close, have to take two buses or drive yourself to parks
The good: The room was clean, the staff were great, and the accomodations were spacious. Having a full kitchen that was (more or less) equipped was really nice. We saved some money cooking breakfast and lunch in our cabin instead of eating out for those meals. The room is more than large enough to sleep 4 adults and a kid or two for a few nights, though I wouldn't try that setup for a week. The bad: It's still a Disney hotel, so expect to pay. Fort WIlderness is more reasonably priced compared to other Disney hotels (ex: Carribean Beach, where my in-laws stayed), but it's still pricey compared to some of the off-site options. Also, you have to take two buses -everywhere- or you have to drive yourself. (Or you can rent a golf cart from the resort.) Would be nice: Having a washer/dryer in the cabin would have been really, really nice. Other condo properties, like Hilton Grand Vacations, have washer/driers in the unit which is very convenient.

Loved the cabins

Pros: Quiet
Cons: Nothing close
The cabins were spacious and clean. It was well stocked. The deck was very large and great for a nice outdoor meal. Check-in took a little too long. Overall very satisfied with the whole experience and would definately recommend this to friends.
