A good choice

With a little kitchenette and a two block walk to the beach, this is a nice little boutique hotel. It is a little tired looking and the room was dated, but the staff is attentive and friendly and there was a food store and bus stop a block away. We would definitely stay again.

Good value for the money

Pros: wireless only available in lobby
Good value for the money. Short walk to the beach & we requested a room on an upper floor because I had read that there was a lot of street noise at night. Room was small and basic. I had read that the interior was recently renovaed but they did not do a stellar job. For example, someone must have noticed that an area had been missed when our room was repainted and it was touched up BUT with a different color-close but not quite matching. A big plus was that you couldn't hear the neighbors and having a tiny balcony was a nice touch.

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
It was my first time in Hawaii and this hotel made me feel at home. I love the ambience, was like paradise inside the hotel. Will definitely come back to this hotel in the future.

Tried Several Hotels, this was the BEST!

It's now August 2011 and I am planning another trip to Hawaii. I was there for 2 months (Aug-Oct) in 2009. I am a single woman and was on my own. I tried several different hotels during the time I was in Waikiki. (I also on Maui). The Aqua Bamboo was my favorite place during that entire stay. I would stay at one hotel for a week, then while walking the streets I would find different hotels that looked interesting. The Bamboo was one of those. I think I stayed there during my third week. I should have stayed for the fourth week too! Everything was close by: grocery stores, movie rentals, fun little shops and good places to eat that weren't pricey. I could get up at sunrise and be at the beach in 2 minutes. I walked in the quiet every morning. I could stay out at night and walk around until all the shops closed and feel completely save by myself - And everyone should know not to be out on the streets after the shops close. On Maui, everything closed down with the sun and it was so dark I didn't even feel safe walking along the beach by myself. I don't sleep well and could come down to the lobby at 3am and there was always someone there to talk to (front desk staff, security, and maintenance were great. I loved the outside pool area. Complete privacy. It's like a secret in the middle of all there big huge hotels. I loved it and will be back in 2011!

There was a roach in my room...

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet
Cons: no free breakfast, roaches, dirty, pool and spa tub closes at ten, noisy if you get a room facing kuhio ave.
Need I say more...there was a roach in my room...I couldn't sleep well for the next three days after seeing it. Most of the staff are unfriendly. The only upside is the cost and distance from the beach.

Ccould not have been happier - what a welcome!

Pros: Free Internet, friently staff and very clean
I visited in 2010. The hotel was A+ from the friendly, helpful staff to the quaintness of the hotel. It was just wonderful. Just 2 short blocks to the beach and downtown waikiki. I would definately go back.

We never got to stay-- we were sent to another hotel-- not as nice.

We arrived at the hotel and the desk attendant told us there was a plumbing problem (the next day no one seemed to know anything about it) and they would send us to sister hotel-- we were sent to a noisy hotel with a room right above a bar that was open til 2-- with live music. The next day we returned (we were told the first night that we could move back the next day) and we were not allowed to see the room before changing. We felt like it was a bait and switch.

Very helpful staff

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, close to beach
During the stay, we forgot to bring one of the phone chargers. Front desk staff was nice to leave her own charger at the desk so we could use it for several times. The other staff was nice to even brought his own snorkeling kits (4 sets) for my family to use during the stay so we did not need to buy. All staff are warming, pleasant, and ready to help whenever needed. Hotel also provides beach chair/umbrella, floats, etc for guests to use at the beach. Breakfast is only free if you bought the correct package. They do charge extra for a parking space.

Friendliest hotel I've ever stayed at

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet
The room was great, clean and comfortable. The location was great too, very near the beach and the many tour shuttle pickups as well. But the thing that stood out to me most was the customer service. The people at the front desk knew our names by sight and always greeted us. If we needed anything at all, they were very, very accommodating. I will defiantly stay there again.

Shabby "Motel" quality stay

The pictures look so nice but this place was very shabby. It's basically a converted apartment building, very old. The worst party of my experience was the parking situation. My first night there I was told that the parking was full and told to park next door. I found myself in a dimly lit parking garage with no elevator so I was by myself at 9:30pm at night going down a stairwell, not safe at all! Then I was given a parking code for the garage across the street which was so small, with no room to manuever, I'm not kidding. The only positive was the staff was friendly here. Accomodations were disappointing. Next time I'm paying more for a bigger hotel such as the hilton or Moana Surfrider. I don't recommend this place.
