Fairly good location in midtown

The room was barely larger than a walk in closet, and bathroom was VERY small with a super small ledge upon which to put necessities (deodorant, etc). TV was on one Side of room not centered for 2 people in a bed. Our room didn't even have Kleenex. The coffee was fairly good. Couldn't find outlet for charging phone. Daughter had one, but I had to crawl under a table and unplug either the lamp or coffee pot to charge my phone. Restaurant was good with fair prices...best plus of this staying experience. Also, elevators were fast. I would NEVER stay there again, and certainly not recommend it to anyone! Concierge even gave us incorrect information about having afternoon tea. She said we didn't need reservations. If we had taken her advice, we'd never gotten in, because the line was extremely long, and most didn't get in at all (at the Plaza).

Hidden mandatory fees (facility charges)

Overall my experience was good but was really bothered by the hidden mandatory facility fee charges! I travel all year long through the country and world and have never had this come up anywhere! Its deceiving, you book on the amount you see on Travelocity or Expedia as the complete fee, but to be charged an extra amount for WiFi, business office and gym (which I did not use) is just wrong!

Great location, good enough!

While this hotel is older and is in need of updating, it met all our needs for a 4 day stay for my family. The staff was great, very friendly and accommodating. Although it was a little dated, it was clean, which is more important anyway! Our view was fantastic- we looked right at the Empire State Bldg from our window. Room was small but for the price, it was fine. The location was great as well, a block away from Herald Square and Madison Square Garden, right next to the subway (A,C,E, LIRR, Penn Station), and a few blocks from Empire State. Overall, I'd recommend as long as you aren't expecting the most upgraded hotel.

Exceeded our expectations!

Beautiful lobby! Very secure. Our room had 2 bathrooms, 2 double beds and a pullout sofa. We loved our stay and will definitely stay at the New Yorker again!

Great Historic Hotel

Pros: Cleanliness, staff, location.
Cons: add a coffee maker in the room or provide coffee for guests.
Location: Close to Penn station and times square. Also right by Madison square garden.
Very convenient location, close to Penn Station. The hotel was very clean and secure. The staff was very helpful when it came to figuring out the best pass to get to do the most activities during our stay. Jennifer was awesome (thank you). The hotel also offers a service where you can check each bag for 2.00 a day, this allowed us to check out of the hotel by 12:00PM and still enjoy our day before our flight that evening without having to carry around our luggage. We were able to check the bags, explore and go out and then come back to the hotel pick up our luggage and take a taxi to JFK from the hotel (which made getting a taxi extremely easy as well). There was no coffee maker in our room, however there is a Starbucks across the street. This Starbucks is extremely busy but the staff is amazing. I would recommend getting the Starbucks app and ordering from your room and then picking up the coffee so you don't have to wait.

Excellent stay

The hotels' locationis close to most of the attraction in the city. The room is conducive for sleeping and the shower is so refreshing. The hotel's security is superb, since it always require a key card to get into the elevator.

My favorite place to stay

Very good service, friendly and professional staff they are able to put the smile in your face anyways. safe, clean, and comfortable place to stay. But I'm wondering if they can care more about the room appliances.

Old and overpriced

We booked this hotel based on the location and other reviews. Overall, I was very disappointed. To keep this review short, I won't go into too many details, but the customer service was lacking right from the beginning. Besides the bellman, the other staff were not helpful and rude at times. Check in took over 25 minutes. When I asked what the total price was, I was told that I should know since I booked it on travelocity. The interior was old and dirty and the room wasn't great. I understand this an old hotel, but the bathroom wasn't clean and the rugs were old and musty. The room was a decent size especially considering we were in NYC, but I would have preferred a smaller clean room to a a big dirty one. Also, they charge extra for everything including storing luggage and mini refrigerators. I've stayed in much nicer hotels in the same price range and location. This may have been a nice hotel years ago, but it has definitely has gone down hill.
