Nice hotel right off Times Square

I thought this was a great hotel! One block off of Times Square, but surprisingly quiet and restful! The rooms were small yes, but it's Manhattan! Good for a couple but I wouldn't bring my kids here. Very reasonably priced. I will definitely stay here again!

Cool spot; caveat for non-smokers

Very cool black-and-white decor (and Timorous Beasties wallpaper!); our room was small but well-designed and comfortable. Heavy blackout drapes were much appreciated! All staff we met, even by chance in the elevator, were friendly and helpful. One complaint: our room smelled heavily of cigarettes. We thought at first it had maybe been poorly cleaned, or that the smell was coming from somewhere else - we didn't deliberately choose a smoking room - until just before we left and found an ashtray. On checkout, the staff explained (quite apologetically) that the eighth floor was all smoking rooms, and that in future we should call ahead to specifically request a non-smoking room.  We're just so used to hotels being smoke-free, or at least making clear which rooms are designated for smoking, that this would never have occurred to us. No one mentioned that it was a smoking room on check-in. This is a good hotel, but call ahead if you don't want to feel like you're sleeping in a cheap motel in the '70s.

Small and stylish

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet
Cons: No free Internet
Sure, the hotel is small but stylish and elegantly gothic as all heck. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is great for a visitor, it's very close to Time Square and the theater district with plenty of choices for eating from a cafeteria style place and plenty of fancier options. The room was quiet with ambient lighting, not to mention very clean.

LOVE this place!

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet, close to theaters
I am a frequent traveler to Manhattan. I love the central location of this hotel... close to Times Square (and all the subways) but far enough off not to have noise/traffic. Don't be put off by reports of small rooms - remember, this is Manhattan and most rooms are relatively small. Rooms are chic and spotless. It has a very glam feel. Did I mention that I love this place? : )

Not amazing, Not bad

Pros: Free breakfast
Cons: No free Internet
Hotel rooms are the size of a cracker box. No shower curtains in the bathroom which really annoyed me considering the fact that the floor would get completely wet.
