"Met all our needs--a very nice hotel."
This was our (two retired teachers) first trip to the city in a very long time. We came by train and wanted to be within walking distance of Penn Station. The hotel turned out to be in a very good location because we could also walk to restaurants of all price ranges, from McDonald's to a 5-course meal. Only downer was their insistence (otherwise we would not have been able to stay, even though the room was fully paid) on a $50 deposit on my credit card, "for any charges you might incur while you are here." Maybe all hotels do this now? Anyway, it was a bit of a surprise--no one told us of this before booking.

"Quiet Neighborhood Hotel, but Close to the Action!"
I love the Hotel Beacon. This was my third time staying there and it is beginning to feel like home. I love that it is in a neighborhood, but within walking distance to my favorite spots, Central Park, Lincoln Center, Trader Joe's, Columbus Avenue. The subway station is 3 blocks away and you can be downtown at the 9/11 Museum is 30 minutes, at 42nd. St. in 20 minutes. I also love the kitchenettes in the room. My husband loves to make his "special" breakfast every morning, so the kitchen comes in real handy. Starbucks is on the next block and there is a Fairway Grocery Store right across the street. The staff is nice and very helpful. I had a bit of trouble with the concierge this time when I was trying to print out my tickets for the One World Observatory and the printer would not work. He was not helpful at all. However, the lady at the registration desk printed them for me on her printer. I will say that this was the first concierge at the Beacon that did not go out of his way to help me. I plan to be back in New York in December and April and I will be staying at The Beacon!

"Adequate hotel if you can get a good deal"
I got an Travelocity deal for $200. For that amount this was adequate. But don't pay full price for this hotel. If you stay here and you want a window that you can see out of you should ask for that. My window was frosted so you couldn't see out of it (room 212). If you just need a place to sleep this is a great's very quiet. Staff was very helpful and nice and my room was very clean. But be aware this hotel doesn't meet normal standard of a Kimpton hotel.
