This hotel is an example of why people think "basic" is a bad thing. I stayed here because it was the only room I could get. There is very little to like about this place. It's located in a mixed-use neighborhood, so the surroundings include houses, three (!) auto body shops and a cemetery. The signage is easy to miss, day or night, and the entrance is down a blind set of concrete stairs into a basement. My room was basically clean, but none of the bedding was truly white anymore. The bed itself, a king, sagged in the middle and took up far too much of the tiny room--the drawers couldn't open all the way, and there was no place for a chair to go with the desk space. The bath tub was chipped and had a large rust spot that looked like a smashed insect. It was dangerously slippery when wet, and no tub mat was provided. The towels were soft and white (yay!) but didn't really dry you so much as push the water around on your body (boo!) and leave you with a sticky feeling. Poor ventilation meant that once used, a towel would never dry. The air conditioner did a great job of keeping the room cold. Too cold, which is saying a lot for me because I love cold. The controls appeared to be cosmetic only, because nothing I did seemed to have much effect. The unit also prevented the closet door from opening all the way. The TV had no channel guide, which I suppose was fine because there very few channels. The most popular programming appeared to be a screen telling us to set up DishTV.

Clean rooms in a remote location.

Pros: The staff, the cleanliness, and the breakfast were all good.
Cons: The small room was uncomfortable.
Location: You will be within taxi, bus, or subway rides to Brooklyn and Manhattan. People could stay at this hotel and use the subway to got to Times Square.
I was needing a hotel in Brooklyn for attendance at a concert at the Kings Theatre. The Sleep Inn Prospect Park South was an inexpensive option on the correct side of town. It is a clean hotel, but the room was smaller than I'm used to in European-sized or Manhattan-sized hotel rooms. Their is a McDonald's across the street, but most of the other places to eat that were within walking distance were store-front places. There are plenty of good eating options via a short taxi ride. The staff was nice. The free breakfast was very good. Someone more comfortably than we were with blue-collar urban area living would probably be more comfortable than we were with the location.
