Clarion Hotel - Park Ave, NYC

Pros: Location was excellent right in the heart of Manhattan, and the excellent help of the staff.
Cons: The rooms were a bit small, but very adequate. I did not go to New York city to stay in my hotel room.
Location: The location was within a block and a half of the subway, which made access to just about anything in within the city. I went to the numerous sites.
The Clarion Hotel was able to respond to my room request at close to last minute. The staff was extremely helpful with direction, subway and bus directions, assisted in identifying a rental car agency nearby, etc. All was done with great knowledge of the city, especially in the local area. Breakfast was complimentary and quite good. I was very pleasantly satisfied with the accommodations and assistance provided by the staff. Thx of great stay.

This hotel has a great location

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants
Cons: No free Internet
What i like the most about this hotel was the location: really close to many N.Y. attractions, you could easly walk almost to any of them. The staff is friendly and helpful. But rooms ( at list my) are so tiny and the bed was so narrow barely enough for one although it was "twin"

Nice hotel. Clean, nice part of town.

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet, Free breakfast
The front desk staff was a little lax. Other than that, the Clarion was a good bargain. Clean, secure, nice breakfast. I'd stay there again.

GREAT place to stay at a great price

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
The Clarion is on Park Ave. S. (not Park Ave.) near 29th. Subway 6, which can connect you to EVERYTHING, is one block away at 28th Ave. Right across 29th Ave. is this awesome food place -- buffet, salad bar, prepared to order, pre-prepared, deli, bakery AND grocery store all in one. They are open to at least midnight and may be open all night. Prices very reasonable. The free breakfast at the hotel isn't much but it's fast and easy, or there's the place across the street. Two subway stops to Grand Central Station; take the shuttle to Times Square. That connects you to everywhere in greater Manhattan. Place was clean and neat. Rooms are small and the hallways extremely narrow but it's a fantastic buy and I will definitely stay there again. Bed was extremely comfortable. My room was very near the elevator but the hotel doesn't seem to draw noisy people. It was extremely quiet. My view out the window was a brick wall about a foot away but that's OK. )

This hotel was clean and convenientfor our needs. The rooms however are very small.

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Quiet
This hotel was clean and convenient for our needs. The rooms however are very small. The bedroom was only slightly larger than the bed, and the bath was tiny. For one person this might be fine but for a couple it is too small.

This hotel is in a great location, very accommodating

I love the location of this hotel, and the staff is great. The rooms are nice but small, and the price is good overall but seems high for small rooms, although I think it's relatively reasonable for New York. I will stay here most times I go to New York when it's just me because of all of the above.

Excellent staff

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Quiet, great staff, clean and safe
Cons: room was very very small
The Clarion's staff is professional and efficient. They are also friendly and welcoming. And when there was a problem (the alarm in the next room kept going off at 10 minute intervals), the staff took care of it - no fuss. Great staff!! The reason I cannot give the hotel an overall excellent rating is that the room was exceptionally small - even for the overpriced NYC market. There was barely enough room to walk between the bed and the wall. However, the room was spotless, as was the bath (but again, TINY shower!). The bedding was like new and the bed very comfortable. The public areas were also clean and well cared for. I didn't try the included breakfast as I was meeting friends for brunch. Even though the room was so small, I would stay there again. It is clean, convenient and safe.

Good value for New York, but not a place to practice your kickboxing

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet, convenient location
Cons: incredibly claustrophobic
I'm tempted to call this "The Zen Hotel," since you have to be mindful of every movement, to avoid knocking something over. Not only is this the smallest room I have ever occupied, anywhere--indeed, the elevator at the Whitney Museum seemed larger than my room--the very hallways are so narrow that when you are pushing the luggage dolly down the hall to your room, you can't see in front of you! I have to watch my budget but wanted to stay in Manhattan, and the price was right. They have a beautiful lobby--I should have taken along an inflatable mattress and just crashed there! Just off the lobby is a computer terminal where you can check e-mail, as well as a room used for a breakfast buffet, though you may as well walk down to the next corner for breakfast, where there is a MacDonald's. There is a California Pizza Kitchen just across the street, and the subway is only one or two intersections away. In that regard, it's extremely convenient. The room was almost comically small, as was the shower stall--so small I imagined my elbows were protruding out into the bathroom as I shampooed my hair--but still, all was clean and comfortable. It was the first time I had slept on a twin bed in years--not the place to bring a newfound friend back to your room for a tryst, unless you're acrobatic. There is an arrangement with a nearby parking garage. I asked for my car in anticipation of driving to New Jersey for my high school reunion and didn't get it for an hour, but that wasn't the hotel's fault. The place is on Park Avenue, around 28th street, so it's convenient to both downtown and midtown. I actually walked back to the hotel one evening from Times Square and walked from the hotel to Washington Square on another morning. Stay there if you're alone, not too overweight, not claustrophobic, on a budget, and looking for convenience and value. For all these considerations, the hotel is adequate. I *might* stay there again but would try to find some place just a tad larger and still within my price range.
