Great Location, Great Property

Pros: Location and comfort. It was great to have a really central place in the French Quarter as home base.
Location: In the heart of the French Quarter - walking distance from Jackson Square and its artists; lots of tours and bars within stumbling distance.
The Royal Sonesta New Orleans was my first choice hotel. It's location on Bourbon Street is in the middle of everything and cannot be beat. From the Sonesta, all of the French Quarter is a five or ten minute walk, which is ideal. A couple highlight: The 24 hour exercise room is located in the basement but is well equipped, immaculately clean, and big enough that you don't feel as if you're falling over other guests when using it. The rooms aren't huge, but they're well appointed. The beds are wonderfully comfortable. My room was absolutely spotless when I checked in. Room service was prompt and the food was excellent but it is absurdly overpriced. Unless you're very tuckered out, I would walk the fifty feet to one of the nearby restaurants. The food in the various restaurants is excellent. The staff here are well trained, friendly, and very knowledgeable. So, let me share an amusing moment. I arrived on a Saturday. The hotel was bustling. There was a very formal wedding taking places with people in tuxes and gowns. It was Saturday so there were drunk tourists all over the place as well. The contrast was stark and entertaining.

Dear Glenden, We’re delighted that you enjoyed our central location, and we hope this enabled you to get the most out of your time here in the French Quarter. We love providing clean and comfortable accommodations and pleasant surprises (such as our fitness center,) and we’re so glad you took advantage of all we have to offer! As you’ve discovered, both Desire Oyster Bar and Restaurant R’evolution are popular among tourists and locals alike, and for good reason! There’s always something new to experience here in New Orleans and we love hearing from guests, such as yourself, who are entertained and appreciate it all. We can’t wait to welcome you back! Cordially, Royal Sonesta New Orleans

Desperately needs an update

Pros: Reps at front desk very helpful; very scenic courtyard; live jazz every night; decent restaurants; hotel location was centrally located.
Cons: No outdoor furniture with the interior balcony view; outdated decor and furniture in disrepair (see pics); poor housekeeping;
Location: Located on bourbon st - so if you're here mostly for bars, this is ultimate location; otherwise, outside quarter is cleaner, safer, & great shopping
I was disappointed in the room. I spent a lot of time researching hotels before choosing. I was attracted to this hotel because the room appeared to be bright, cheerful, and modern. What I got was small(er than expected), outdated, and frankly, sad. I upgraded the room for more space, but unfortunately same decor followed. I also didn't understand why the balcony came with no futurniture. So even though they had a very beautiful courtyard, it was hard to enjoy standing up. Needless to say, choosing this option was a waste of money. Another disappointment was the location. I've never been to New Orleans and had the impression that a hotel right on Bourbon street was the ultimate option. WRONG!! I found out too late that Bourban is known for its bars, souvenor shops, and very drunk people. That's great if that's why you're going. But I found that the areas just a block away to be much cleaner and safer.

Dear Cheryl, Your kind comments regarding our Royal Sonesta colleagues are most appreciated and our team members at The Jazz Playhouse were thrilled to learn that you enjoyed the live music featured during your visit. We appreciate your added feedback and regret to learn that our Bourbon Street location left you wanting more. We appreciate that the buzz and energy that awaits just beyond our front doors may not be a good fit for all, though should you join us again, as we hope you will, perhaps an experience in The R Club, our concierge level, would change your mind. Warm Regards, Royal Sonesta New Orleans

Oops

Pros: Beautiful well maintained, friendly
Cons: Communication and following thru on what promised.
Location: Right on bourbon street.
Reserved room with balcony on Bourbon street. Arrived to find construction on Bourbon st. Given. Room off a side street with balcony and told it was on corner with view of Bourbon st.. It was not and was still being charged for bourbon street view. Felt I should have been notified in advance of the issue. After refusing that room and rooming with others that were with us in their room, was told I would be given vouchers for breakfast which never occurred. Next day I addressed the issue again and was given breakfast for free and paid for parking. This was acceptable, but should have a happened without me having to readdress the issue. Great location and beautiful hotel. I realize construction was not their fault but it was not handled properly in my opinion.

Dear Mo, We were delighted to welcome you and thank you for sharing your feedback! We apologize that we may have been unable to get in touch with you prior to your arrival, but we had short notice on the City Improvement Project and attempted to notify guests as soon as possible when we learned the news. While we’re pleased to see that you enjoyed your time here in the French Quarter and were satisfied with the resolution offered by our team, we regret that your experience was not as flawless as we would have hoped. We appreciate your patience and follow up in resolving the matter and are glad you enjoyed the beauty and location of our property. We hope you’ll be back again once the construction on Bourbon Street is complete to enjoy the true Royal Sonesta New Orleans experience! All the best, Royal Sonesta New Orleans

Room intrusion

While lying in bed about 9 am we received a knock at the door. Just as I got to the door an employee of the bottle water company you use walked right in on me. Good thing I was clothed.

Dear clsgarcia, Warm greetings from the Crescent City and thank you for taking the time to share your review. While we are warmed to know that your visit was thoroughly enjoyed, we regret to learn of the added details you have shared. Please be certain that outside vendors are not provided with access to rooms and that the person who entered would had to have been one of our own hotel colleagues. This does not change your experience and we again extend our apologies and thank you for bringing this to our attention so that we can be certain the matter is not repeated. Once more, it was a treat to welcome you to the French Quarter and we hope that we can one day do so again. Warm Regards, Royal Sonesta New Orleans

Great Bourbon Street Hotel!

Location: Perfect if you want a nicer hotel on Bourbon. Walking distance to most main attractions and the St Charles Streetcar.
Would absolutely stay here again. Hotel was very nice, staff was friendly and helpful. And there seemed to be lots of staff around, so no long waiting time to get help or check in/out. Bed was very comfortable. Room was clean. Did not eat at the hotel restaurant, but it did look very nice. Nice courtyard and pool area. Had courtyard facing room...there were a couple weddings a day in the courtyard you could hear a bit in the room. But they did not run late so were no bother and kind of fun to watch over and hear. Not sure what a Bourbon street room would be like noise wise. It was a girls trip and we never felt unsafe walking back to the hotel, even late at night. Stayed on the RClub level. The wait staff in the club were great. Always cheery and helpful. The RClub offered lite breakfast. Cookies, water, coffee, fruit throughout the day. Wine, beer, champagne, and appetizers (for example gumbo, hummus, bbq sliders, etc) for 2 hours in the evening. Also, nice balcony in the RClub room to enjoy. Great to have a drink and a snack while getting ready to head out for the evening. Concierge staff on that floor were also very available and very helpful with suggestions and anything you needed.
