Nice, but flies over the food

Enjoyed the hotel. Flies were all over the food, that was disgusting.

The hotel is 11 years old and definitely shows the wear. Pools are dirty, chipped tiles, black mold on cement edges scum floating on top made you sort of cringe to get in. Beach area dirty, lots of cigarette butts and trash. People would rake the sand but leave the trash in the sand.Grounds keepers took 3 days to pick up a blue plastic glove on the lawn. Dirty dishes with food left all over the resort on railings, in hallways, under chairs and in elevators. Had water problems in shower several times. Only music at pools was "cruise ship junk" the macarana etc NO REGGAE IN JAMAICA?? That was biggest disappointment. Food and drink quality was good but all buffet- even the restaurants you needed to make rservations for. Overall Staff friendly. Has a lot of potential but needs some stronger management practices.

Customer service is poor especially at the check in desk. Parking is horrible. A friend visited me and was not allowed on the property at 7 pm. I had to meet him at the street corner. The hotel did not care.

big resort

My experience at the Riu would've been great if it weren't for the staff at the front desk. They are horrible. Their customer service skills are horrible. They need to be retrained or fired. The assistant manager Kerriann need to be more professional. She argued with me I from of guest. Over money that was stolen from from me by another employee. The supervisor Richard needs to be fired for being unprofessional. Laytent the front desk employee is very immature. Another front desk employee had a noticibile hickey on her neck which is very Inappropriate. The bartenders are awesome (Chris and Nashawn were very good at what they do) The waiters and waitresses are very good. Housekeeping staff are very good and professional. The night time entertainment staff are excellent because of them I would visit this resort again. They food was great. The club was ok on some nights. My only issues are with the unprofessional lazy and obnoxious staff at the front desk except for the general manager Stacy. Stacy was very pleasant and apologized for the situation that I had with the wifi. The Riu advertise free wifi but they fail to realize it's only free and limited 2 guest in the room. My trip consisted of 3 guest. That left me to purchase my own wifi. I paid 40$ for 7 days. After day 3 my wifi was blocked. Which led me to think the staff that sold me the wifi had pocketed my money. The manager Kerriann or general manager Fran did not want to help me until 2 hours of waiting.

Upgrade needed

The only issue I had with this resort is with the room. It needs a major upgrade with the decor, bathroom fixtures etc. The room is not spacious or give the feeling that you are in a luxurious hotel. FYI: if you request for an ocean view make sure you ask for a full view. I was placed in a room with a partial view of the ocean which can only be seen if stepped all the way out on the balcony

Spent five days at the hotel. We enjoyed our stay. Great overall service in all areas and a fun hotel. Love staying at the RIU hotel in Ocho Rios

The check in was a little bit of a hiccup because of a mixup with the reservation. Anna-Maria stepped up to the plate and gave us outstanding service. We were blown away. There were 6 of us and we were treated like royalty. I can't wait to get back.

Had a wonderful time at this Resort. Excellent food and great staff. Love the jerk chicken at jerk hut. Very clean facilities. Will definitely be back and bring my friends.

Bad experience

Bad food, room service did not replace used glasses or refill liquor bar with full bottles. Pools were too dirty to get into.
