Good location, run down building

Pros: Location. Privacy. Quiet.
Cons: Fix the stairwells and mention on the site or when checking in that there is not elevator.
Location: Snorkeling. Jumping off Big Rock. Shopping. Dining.
The Good • Close to the beach • Quiet • Close parking • Clean room The Bad • "Ocean view" exists if you look around partition on balcony • Difficult to work TV controls. The Ugly • No elevator. No one mentioned that which could have been a huge problem if we had a bunch of luggage or were unable to walk up stairs • Exterior of building is falling apart. Stairs are in horrible condition We stayed in the property adjacent to the Royal Lahaina, in the old hotel. And it is old. I did like some of the aesthetics. It was probably built in the 1940s and some of the old details still exist. It would have been nice if when they were remodeling it, they kept some of the nuances of the 40s and 50s. It would make it a nice "retro" looking hotel. The room itself was nice, but the stairs were in horrendous condition. Some of the carpeting is coming up and could potentially be a tripping hazard. For the money, for the area, I guess it was reasonable. It's not cheap by any means, and an Airbnb would have been a better choice if there had been availability.

Website misleading

Thought you were getting the tower and got the three story old building. Nothing and no one told you there was no elevator. Exterior building needs repairing but room was ok. A bit of a walk to the pools. Not all rooms had beach view with was also misleading. Front desk staff and trading co. Staff very nice. The security and ice cream staff were not very nice.

Parking is a big problem after 4:30 when people come for the luau. Beautiful location. Room smelled musty the entire time. Now that we are home we are still airing out our clothes to try to remove the musty smell. You get what you pay for. In this case it is still not worth the low rate

Not what we expected ...

We chose this hotel because of the ratings, but we will never trust that method again. Upon arrival in our room we were greeted by cockroaches all over the bathroom floor. There were no coffee cups for coffee and the room had a strong mildew smell. We slept with the lights on as not to encourage more visits by cockroaches and kept our luggage off the floor and zipped up. We left early the next morning.

Property looked nice. Ocean view building was old and in poor repair. Room was clean, but old and rough.

great ocean /pool area with a poor looking room

Pros: The beach, pool, and restaurant
Cons: The rooms interior is in bad need of renovating
Location: shops, country club (golfing) and ocean activities
We stayed in the Hale and this must be the oldest part of the property. The room was old walls peeling, vent dirty ,and moldy shower. The comfort of the room / bed was okay. Could be better. The house keeping does clean your bathroom and vacuum the carpet. This place is in great need of a renovation. Which they are doing on the cottages and some painting of the stairs, so you have to walk far to get to your room. I would think they would renovate inside first. We overlooked the interior and had a great time relaxing and really enjoyed the pool, beach, and restaurant. We bought a few items from the store, cashier friendly. We liked that there is free trolley service to the whalers village. Wishing it could take us a little farther into town, but that's only the bus service. The hotel staff is friendly and welcoming.

Excelent stay

Pros: Hotel in front of the beach, clean, excellent pool and beautiful lobby.
Cons: Do not charge parking.
Every thing was great except the parking charge. We were 4 people, dad, mom and 2 kids. Hotel's room are big enough for all and it is too confortable. Although the sea is a bit strong, we took a bath on the beach in front of the hotel and it was very fun.

Home Away From Home

Once again this resort blew us away. The kaanapali ocean in is a little run down but thats exactly what we like about it. Its quiet and hiden and we love that. We were treated well by the entire staff especially by Giovanny and Monet at the front desk. These 2 employees truelly made our experience unforgettable. Big Mike from Maui Beach Activities hooked us up at the Westin North. He was very helpful with everything we needed. We will be back every year. Mahalo!
