The views were great, but not a very clean resort

It was an ok resort. For the price though, I would pick a different resort. The only restaurants available to eat at were the buffets, unless you can actually get a reservation at one of the others in the resort. We were there for 6 nights and they were booked on all reservations the entire stay. The pool was dirty, bathrooms by the pool were dirty and missing half the toilet seats. My first night there, I went to get into bed and there were food crumbs in my sheets.

Nice hotel in good location if you want quiet

Pros: The smaller site made it easy to get around and be with others we traveled with.
Cons: Food choices, more waiters at poolside, and better entertainment.
Location: Good location for shopping, entertainment, and being offsite. Bad location for excursions and beach use.
Barceló is a nice hotel, however, the rooms could use some updating. The shower leaked, and the temperature control for the room didn't work - but overall, it was workable considering the price. The rooms are kept very clean and the entire staff is friendly. There's a language barrier throughout the site, especially in the lobby, but their great attitude made it tolerable. The food is average, but when you consider the total cost, it's reasonable - and the small site made getting around easy. If you like excursions or water sports on the beach, this hotel may not work for you - unless you don't mind a 40 minute ride (one way) to jet ski, parasail, drive quads, etc. Even then, the water in Cabo is cold. The beach at this hotel is nearly vacant due to not being able to enter the water with its constant undertow. This was a big disappointment, as I enjoy watching the characters walk by and the overall beach experience. If you want the beach to yourself and you don't mind not being able to use the water, this location is for you. Quiet and laid back defines this hotel. We vacationed here the first week of February and the weather was in the low 80's, but felt much hotter in the sun and much cooler in the shade. It was so much cooler in the shade that the swim-up bar wasn't being used. In fact, the pools overall we're mostly vacant. You will need long sleeve shirts or sweaters every evening and morning here. If you want quiet and privacy, this hotel provides that.

Beautiful view of the water

Pros: The grounds-keeping was great.
Cons: Food - options for vegetarians, and overall quality/taste. The rooms should get an upgrade.
Location: The location (San Jose del Cabo) was perfect for family vacations, or with young children. Not overly crowded, easy access to the beach.
We took a family reunion vacation at Barcelo. The views and grounds of hotel definitely met our expectations. They take very good care of all public spaces. The hotel rooms could use an upgrade, but still good enough for basics. The food was okay - we are all vegetarian and getting good veg food was difficult. The kitchen staff wanted to help, but because of the language barrier, they couldn't understand what we were asking very well. After 3 days in, we finally got hold of a manager that spoke English, and he conveyed to the chef what we needed as vegetarians. The staff was great in all areas of the hotel. They were very friendly and worked hard to please all the guests. Those who spoke English happily would stop to have conversations with guests. Overall, they were very inviting.

Great food, great location

Pros: The food!! plus the beach.
Cons: The front desk staff seemed a bit overwhelmed at times. The TV channels are pretty limited, CNN, Fox News and HBO in English.
Location: There is a lovely message place across the road that is a true bargain. The shops nearby were also nice and the beach is fabulous.
We had a lovely time at the Barceló. The food was truly amazing, especially the breakfast buffet. The specialty restaurants are also fabulous and made for some very charming, intimate dinners with great service. The location is convenient and the pools are lovely. The beach is wonderful and you can walk for miles in either direction.

Very nice beach and ocean view from room balcony. We really liked the ocean and beach view from the room terrace. We could enjoy both the sunrise in the morning and the moon rising in the evening. There were a lot of sunbeds around the pools, however we were surprise by the attitude of the other guest to occupy sunbeds from early morning by late afternoon by placing towels or magazines on the beds. Some of guest that occupied sunbeds early from morning didn’t show up before after lunch. Management should have implemented measures to avoid guest to occupy sunbeds unnecessary. Everyone could thus had the opportunity to use sunbeds around the pools. At many resorts around the world, towels are removed from the sunbeds it they are not used.

great location and great food and helpful staff

Pros: The room was clean and a nice size with a writing table. There was a good sized safe and a small refrigerator which was stocked regularly. Great food.
Cons: Better pillows would be nice.
Location: Location was fine. We went into Los Cabos initially but later on discovered many shopping and other facilities nearby.
the resort was the right size; ie not so large that it took forever to get back to your room from the pool. The staff were friendly (I enjoyed speaking with Mari and Denise in Las Olas dining room) and we really enjoyed the food and view of the Sea of Cortez while dining. The weather was fabulous and the town of San Jose del Cabo has lots to offer. Usually the Sea of Cortez is accessible for swimming (although black flag - huge waves the first few days we were there).

Bring your patience!

Well it all seemed great when we arrived, but the it began! The biggest problem was the house keeping staff! For the first 7 days I had to call everyday, she didn't replace things we used everyday, coffee,beer,water, but we had 8 shampoos, lotion soaps. Also they don't have hand towels? The last 2 days the housekeeper was on point! So what was up the other days?? No answers were given.

Fantastic quiet location

Pros: Smaller property that is wonderfully landscaped.
Cons: Service needs to be better overall. Better loungers around the pool.
Location: On the beach in San Jose del Cabo. Some nearby shopping and Cabo San Lucas is only 20 minutes away by car
This Barcelo is fairly new to the chain. What is now the Hyatt Ziva used to be a Barcelo property and we would consider that to have been a better experience. Staff at the new property is hit and miss. Those that are good are great but too much inconsistency. Food is good, no issues there. Good selection of specialty restaurants. The night time entertainment could be better as it is very quiet in San Jose.
