    4/5 Good

Staff was incredibly pleasant and welcoming. Everything was very clean. Amenities were very basic and no fridge in the room was a bummer. It's what you want when you are in Hawaii though - who wants to sit in the room anyway?!

The photo is misleading. It's a glorified, rundown building in a party location. If you get there past 6:00 pm, there's a number on the door to call to get someone to check you in. I got there about 7:30 pm, called the phone number and a woman instructed me to park my car 2 blocks away, return and punch a code in the lobby door and wait 30 minutes and someone would come from another hotel. So, I sat in the lobby. In a half hour, a young man walked me up to a "suite" and left. The room had no (Makaei Suite) had no a/c, window blinds that wouldn't open, ants running rampant, a filthy bathroom, ceiling with water stains, a phone across the room from the bed and a TV the size on a child's computer monitor attached to a mechanical arm with wires dangling. I couldn't open the balcony door due to the bar patrons on the corner and music thumbing. I called the front desk to complain and again the guy who checked me in arrived in 45 minutes with a plastic fan and left. He said he wasn't maintenance. The next morning, I called again and was told the building was getting a $600,000 a/c in the future but nothing could be done about the problem. When I went downstairs, to discuss the problems, the woman behind the desk highlighted a name on a business card and told me to talk with that person. She said problems are above her paygrade! Unbelievable!! Check yelp for the pictures I posted.

Our plane was late getting so when I went to check in at 7:30 PM, there was no person to check us in. I had to wait 25 minutes to get a code to get into the room. Then when I went to get coffee In the AM, my door would not lock. I had to call maintenance and wait another 30 to leave the room. The bed was squeaky and the rooster outside started singing at 5:30 AM. The old Hawaiian charm was nice but I am glad I only had one night there and am now at a new resort so I can get some rest!

I didn't like that the room was half the size of the one in this picture. I also didn't like that I had to sit in the lobby for 20 minutes after a long day of travel waiting for someone to drive over and check me in.
