"Outstanding Resort Hotel at Reasonable Price"
This was actually the least expensive of the three main hotels we stayed in during our trip, but it was by far the best. The staff was welcoming from the moment we stepped onto the property, and provided lots of small touches that made a big difference throughout our five night stay. Beautiful pool area, great beach with comfortable chairs and cabanas and complimentary snorkeling gear that we could use right off the hotel beach. Lovely grounds, great fish ponds and historical area to walk through. Room was comfortable and clean with nice lanai and beautiful ocean view. Would definitely stay here again!

"Perfect Place to Stay"
The Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel is the perfect place to stay. I visited a lot of the other resorts on the west side of the big island and this one seemed to be the best. It had a sense of privacy the others did not have. Most of the hotels are crammed into the touristy sections of downtown Kona. This one is a bit more secluded, but only a 5-10 minute drive away. Snorkeling was available (Free equipment!!) right on the strip of private beach along with free umbrellas for beach side days. Even though it is secluded the beach and pool areas still have singles, if you are interested, but without the frat house vibe of the downtown Kona hotels and bars...... Many of the Big Island Hotels do not have beach access but instead are on a rocky shore...... Hapuna is on one of the best beaches of the big island. Get the Splash Pass!!!! Well worth it!!!! Rent a car!!!!! Convertible for basic stuff or jeep for some of the trail/ mountain road stuff (few but not many roads require 4WD)

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay."
Our two bedroom unit was very spacious and very comfortable. We had a ground floor unit with a large lanai. The kitchen was tiny , but quite sufficient. We had a lot of privacy and enjoyed our stay.

"Wonderful Condo!"
The condo was clean, roomy and beautiful. Housekeeping came two times a week to clean the condo, replace towels, dishwasher detergent, coffee filters, papertowels, toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash and lotion--they even did the dishes for us! They also provided towels for use at the pool. When we called them to ask for more coffee filters, they were delivered within 10 minutes. We called to let them know a lightbulb was out, maintenance was there with a new one within 5 minutes! There was a stacked washer/dryer in the unit. A note about the washer--no matter what temperature I set the dial to, it always washed in hot water. A/C was included in our package, but we noticed others had to pay for it on a per-day basis. The pool was small, but functional. There are BBQ grills located at the pool and in several nice sitting areas within the complex. The sitting area nearest to our condo was a great place for my yoga practice as long as I kept an eye out for wild turkey poop! Our condo was assigned one parking space, it was nice to know that we wouldn't be hunting for parking after a long day of hiking. For anyone who is disabled (like I am), the condos all seemed to have stairs to get to them. We had to go down about 10 stairs to get to the front door. Having said that though, it offered great privacy from neighbors. There is a wall between the front doors of neighboring condos and you can't see anyone from your balconies. I would highly recommend Paniolo Greens!

"This is place is great, but nothing is perfect"
My wife and I had dinner here a couple of times on previous trips to the Big Island and have since stayed for a week on three occasions.  We have enjoyed the Plumeria and Mt view rooms.  The rooms are large, comfortable and filled with all the amenities we need.  Service is transparent.   There are three principle restaurants with varied results.  Manta (B&D) is pretty good, but you never feel the staff cares.  Hua Tree (L) has a limited menu, but a great staff, and fantastic location.  Monettes (D) is fantastic but pricey.  All have million dollar views.  The resort location on basically a private lagoon is spectacular.  That you can get a four star meal over looking said lagoon is priceless.   There are more expensive resorts on the Big Island, but none have as good a location.   There are some irksome rules at Mauna Kea,ex: the pool area is closed at 6 (seriously?) even the Marriott doesn't do that.  There are several other nice resorts (fairmont, mauna lea and even the Four Seasons(we like to hit the Four Seasons for L&D on trips to and fro Kona and the harbor)) nearby with more great restaurants.  You can stay a week, eat at great restaurants and not dine twice at the same place.  Of course this takes more time and effort than staying at the Mauna Kea.   When school is out there are lots of kids, when school is in the average age is AARP.   If you want a beautiful room, in a beautiful place, with pretty good food this is a great choice.  There are other choices who say NO less, but it will cost you.

"Not Mobility Friendly"
The property is huge!!!! Anyone with mobility issues will find it quite difficult to get around especially in rainy weather when the boats and tram aren't working. The quickest way from point "A" to point "B" usually requires navigating a flight of stairs which may be impossible or certainly difficult for mobility challenged persons. There are plenty of elevators, however, they are typically at the other end, away from where you are going. The property is beautiful, with awesome views of the ocean and while there is not a swim beach on the property there are some beautiful ones about 20 miles both north and south of the hotel. The hotel does have three pools, two larger pools that are family friendly and one in the Ocean Tower that is adult only. Several restaurants are on the property, food is pretty good and prices are in line with high end hotels. Most, if not all, of the restaurants close by 9:00 pm. Room service is good but pricey. The rooms are a very nice size and the beds are extremely comfortable, we had no trouble going from our latex mattress to the one at the hotel. The staff is very accommodating and always willing to go the extra step to please!!!!!

"needs maintenance and better housekeeping"
The carpets and furniture were light colored and showed several stains. The inside walls had scraps and needed paint. Three of the window blinds did not work properly. Downstairs bath needed an exhaust fan or make the window work (it would not open). Housekeeping didn't come daily as stated and they removed the kitchen towels and dishcloth but did not replace them. They needed to replenish the toilet paper (we ended our stay with one roll for two baths and four people.
