Great honeymoon spot

Went there for our honeymoon. Everything about it was great: the staff, the location, was the rooms. It seemed to cater to couples, as there were few families.

Great Location and hotel

You'll be right near several great beaches with incredible snorkeling. I swam with a turtle and a seal. The southside is considered the sunny side so we often had great weather while other areas were raining. Most excursions are about 30 minutes away but it still worth it. Nice staff, clean rooms.

Paradise Found!

Pros: The hotel was perfect for us--the right size and scale. It's not a mega resort with lots of noise and hubbub. It's relaxing and tranquil.
Cons: Can't think of a thing to improve.
Location: Location was ideal. A walk to shops and for exercise long the beach trail.
We booked the Koa Kea based upon several reviews and were not disappointed. We upgraded to a deluxe oceanfront room and were extremely pleased with size, bedding, and amenities. This is really a wonderful hotel, with the perfect location, small size, and outstanding service one expects in a five star hotel. We ate in the hotel restaurant Red Salt and the food was well-prepared and creative. Drinks by the pool were all top shelf brands and generously poured. The staff is friendly and helpful--eager to please, but not hovering or fawning. The room was serviced twice per day and was immaculate. The location of the hotel was perfect--right on the beach and enjoying a perfect view of the Pacific. There was a lovely beach steps from our room and the surf shack provides everything one needs for sunning, surfing, and snorkeling. We could not have been more pleased with our stay and are planning to return next year.

My husband and I just came back from staying a week here. The time flew by. We weren't ready to leave this place. Amazing hotel and staff. Everyone was courteous, went out of their way to help us, the valet guys knew us by name. It was one of the nicest we've stayed at. One of the reasons we booked it was the smaller size. However, if you want huge, more pools (there was one nice one) and more options this is not this place. The views were nice and access to the beach. It is very a quick walk to Poipu beach also. Red Salt was very delicious and other restaurants across the road and nearby. We would definitely stay again if we return.

Treated like Queens!

This resort doesn't photograph well..It is so so pretty and so zen.  The staff knows you from the first moment you arrive. They take care of every need and are so helpful about local suggestions and cool out of the way spots.

Quality Hotel

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet, good location for wathching the sunset
Cons: expensive bar drinks, inflexible front desk
We ended up here after leaving the Northern cottage we booked thru vrbo. Mosquitoes, muggy air, chickens squawking & dogs barking our wake up isn't my idea of a satisfying, relaxing vacation. We went on a hotel search and decided on Koa Kea. It's intimate. Mostly youngish couples. We visited many beaches on Kauai and the beaches to left of the hotel were probably my favorite. That being said, imo Kauai beaches rate far below those of Bermuda, Carrib., Mex, Turks & C's, bahamas. No white sand and no clear blue water. The rooms are dimly lit (I like light) but nicely furnished. The bathroom is pretty outstanding with a large marble shower. It has a rain shower spray; however, the water pressure is so low, I didn't bother to use it. There is no flat sheet? The duvet is light but it keeps you so warm we had to turn the room temp down to 65 degrees at night. The outdoor bar drinks are on avg. $14. Wish they would offer a sunset special or have a happy hour. (My husband bought his favorite beer in the local grocery store and put it in our ice bucket and took it out to our chaises.) We had breakfast at the hotel's restaurant, Red Salt, which wasn't too outrageously priced, food good. Loved the tiny corn muffins that melted in your mouth. Wish it were open air, though. Like that they offer a $100 6p.m. late check out fee for those with late flights. We took advantage of this. If we had a do-over, would stay just a couple of nights on Kauai & the majority on Mauai. But I'm sure hikers love Kauai. We are cruisers, and can't wait to get back to that--very little boredom with all the diversions offered.

A wonderful, quiet hotel

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet, friendly service
I had a great experience at the Koa Kea Hotel. The staff was extremely friendly and provided exemplary service and attention to all of my needs. The decor throughout the hotel was chic and modern. My room was very clean and the bed was ultra comfortable (I slept great even though it wasn't as firm as my own bed). The hotel grounds is well maintained, including the pool and hot tub. The hotel provides valet service and WI-FI internet were nice extras that are included in our hotel fees. Their restaurant, Red Salt, was excellent too! Breakfast and dinner at the Red Salt are must dos!! The Koa Kea Hotel is a little pricey compared to other hotels on Kauai, but the overall experience is well worth it if you want a quiet, relaxing vacation.
