Check your air conditioner!

I was up great because they did not have the room ready when I checked-in, turn out the AC not working!!!

Nice hotel, Convenient location

Occidental costa cancun was great. The staff that works there really are amazing. Everyone was friendly and extremely time conscious. the facilities were clean (I.e pool,spa, bathrooms). The location is great because there is a bus stop right outside of the hotel which's route will take you pretty much anywhere you need to go locally. There's a walmart nearby that you can also to travel too by bus if you missed any lastminute stuff or want to pick up snack.(Theres souvenir's at walmart too!). My only complaints are that I saw 3 roaches in my room (yes we're in a tropical place but in different parts of the room, like running to hide the bed) and the water pressure in the toilets if you know what I mean. We had to call front desk to fix the situation. They were very speedy but this seemed extremely normal lets just say the man was prepared. Overall I would recommend the hotel however try to avoid first floor rooms unless your room is facing the pool. Thank you occidental for your great service it was well appreciated.

Nice hotel

Nice ambient, the staff very friendly always ready to help. The shows were very nice, and the food was very good. Overall my 12 yr old son and myself had very good time and will definitely recommend this hotel.

lovely vacation spot

Lovely view from the resort's beach and great atmosphere by resort pool. Comfortable room arrangements and the all inclusive package made for relaxing and carefree vacation

Mexican vacation - minus the beach

Pros: Hotel was clean, and minibar was nice to have in room.
Cons: Beach is horrible, and people should be made aware of what it looks like on your photos, not shot from angles that make it appear to be an actual beac
Location: We were at end of strip. All we wanted to do was sit and relax. Did want a snorkel trip and took one to Isla Mujeres
My disappointment with the hotel started upon check in. There was a big deal made of the 500- "resort credit" this hotel was giving. In actuality, it was just a brochure with % off at various places in and around hotel. Then came our room. Gentleman said "beautiful ocean view". My heart sank when I looked out the doors and saw our "beach" was no more than a place next to a boat harbor, roped off for a small swimming area. It was obviously man made. There were visible sandbags all around the beach moved daily to prevent wash away. Many guesst who rose in early am said they witnessed sand being brought in during early hours. I also saw our room directly in back of stage. I'm in my 60"s and my husband is 70. I asked bellhop of there would be much noise and he assured us only between 8 and 9 at night. We unpacked. It was now around 3 pm and obviously afternoon show starting. Ole!, Ole!. I requested a new room. After hearing none available, etc. we were given room 436 - to quote girls at the front desk "a room we usually don't like to give." Very small, and no bureau. Had to live our of our suitcases. Next day I requested a lamp. There were only 2 low lights in the small room. We were FINALLY given a decent size room, with light. For the stay, both food and beverages were mediocre at best.. We do not drink alcohol, but tried a variety of non alcoholic drinks . While staff polite, MANY did not speak a word of English. And ENOUGH with pushing time share!! .

Worst hotel experience ever!!

We paid for oceanview terrace/balcony and got view to the building next to us. The food is all included and not enough variety, they only had yellow rice, chicken and potatoes the rest were soups. If you wanted to sit down you needed to wait until someone left because there is not enough space available. The staff is not welcoming at all, after i told them we didnt book the room we had she said well we dont have anything right now, she still charged me for oceanview price. We went to cancel 1hr after we arrived and she said they would still charge us 1 day, so that day we decided to book another hotel for the rest of the trip and only stayed 1 night at the occidental. We booked Hyatt Zilara and it was the best most welcoming experience we have ever had! We told them what happened and they even gave us a discount!! The night we had to spend at the occidental it rained and water came in through the window and flooded my husband shoes and half the carpet on the sides on the bed. I went to inform and she said ok well someone will clean it after ( this was the manager) her name was Anahi. Please do yourself a favor and do not book it is definately not worth the price at all. By the way in the pictures our room was the top left one with no balcony.

Decent

Average hotel, good experience. This is not a high end resort, but it is relatively inexpensive and overall clean. Hotel staff were nice. Downside is the lines to wait for dinner, the hotel could definitely benefit from a larger dining area. You get what you pay for. Would consider staying again.

Great hotel, small beach

Great hotel, I was pleased with the food selection. Lots of rules though around reserving the restaurants. Very small beach, but adequate and neat. Easy access to various tours, and city bus stop nearby for going into the restaurants and bars area of Cancun.
