"Charming hotel centrally located in Hilo"
The hotel looks dated from the front but if you don't go inside, you'll miss out. It is extremely well-preserved and quaint, with tiki torches and patios to sit and enjoy your vacation. There's a museum inside about local history, and the front desk staff was very helpful and informative.

"Uncle Billy's Hilo Bay Hotel (Pagoda 2)"
The staff at Uncle Billy's were awesome. The hotel itself is rundown and needs renovation. Our room was ok. The carpet has got to go. If the carpet throughout was to be replaced, It would make a world of difference. The linen however was very clean. The 90's picture tube tv is still going strong. It was overall since stay however.

"Great value for a place to stay in Hilo"
The cottage is a house remodeled into three hotel-like rooms. The resulting rooms are a little dated with some wearing and stains on the carpet, but not bad. The bed was comfortable and the room spacious with a table and chairs to sit at. A small refrigerator is in the room. Free parking. The water in the bathroom was instantly very hot, so you had to be careful. There is only a shower, no tub. The owner makes breakfast about 7:00 am which we enjoyed the two mornings (macadamia pancakes with sausage and scrambelled estate grown eggs with Portuguese sausage. She also grows coffee beans and makes the coffee, which was terrific. Also local fruits are available in the kitchen along with and assortment of cereals, bagels, bread, juice and milk. A full breakfast, indeed! The location is in a quiet residential neighborhood near Hilo Bay with access to the Bay edge at the end of the street. Not so quiet are the coqui frogs that call at night. They didn't bother me, but they kept my wife up some with their calling. The price can't be beat.

    Hilo Hotel & Travel Guide

As the largest city on the Big Island of Hawaii, Hilo has an array of tourist attractions to tempt you to spend a night or two in town. Find flights to Kailua-Kona, but let Hilo hotels be your base for exploring museums and historic landmarks, parks and natural wonders, and a picturesque downtown wrapped around a crescent-shaped bay.

    Out and About in Hilo

Walk from downtown hotels in Hilo, past historic wooden storefronts that survived major tsunamis in 1946 and 1960, and along Banyan Drive, a road lined with impressively massive multi-limbed banyan trees. At the end is Liliuokalani Gardens, a 30-acre Japanese garden featuring arched bridges, fish ponds, bamboo groves, and pagodas. Guided tours are available at the Lyman Museum and Mission House. Built as a family home for missionaries in 1839, it's the oldest wooden building on the island. The adjacent museum includes natural history exhibits and an extensive gem collection. At the Imiloa Astronomy Center, see planetarium shows and learn about the connections between science and Hawaiian culture. Exhibits tell of ancient Polynesians who used stars to navigate their way to the Hawaiian archipelago as well as the groundbreaking discoveries about the universe made by scientists at the observatories on nearby Mauna Kea.

    Eating and Drinking

Hilo's restaurants are mostly along its main thoroughfare, Kilauea Avenue, but you'll find great places to eat all over town, from fast food on a side street to fine dining on the waterfront. Chinese, Thai, and Japanese cuisines are well represented, and you're also in luck if you want Italian or Mexican food. Asian-Hawaiian fusion is popular too. If you found cheap hotels in Hilo with Travelocity and want budget-friendly meals to match, try the farmers' market downtown on Wednesdays and Saturdays. You can make a fine picnic from tropical fruits, locally made jams, fresh baked goods, and all manner of macadamia nut products.

Save up to $537 when you book a hotel and flight at the same time with Travelocity. For an even better deal, browse Hilo vacation packages.
