"It's ok"
It's decent. The grounds are pretty but they nickel and dime you for EVERYTHING. The bathrooms are moldy. A hamburger is $17 to 20 dollars therefore very expensive. If you go to the stores they charge you $2 dollars for the shuttle. May not sound like a lot but when staying at the hotel you will see. Here are some pictures of the grounds.

"My favorite hotel on the Big Island."
Over the years we have stayed at several different places on the Big Island; this is our second stay at the Mauna Lani. I cant imagine staying anywhere else. The hotel is beautifully designed and landscaped with both salt and freshwater ponds. The beach is clean and easy to access. You can snorkel right off the beach. I hate it when hotels add the extra $25 resort fee, but we did get beach cabanas, lots of towels, snorkel equipment, parking, internet and pool equipment and more all for that price. The staff is outstanding. Many are long term employees, which I think speaks well for the hotel. If i have a complaint it is about the food. Dinner options were more limited than I like and the restaurants in the hotel close at 8:30 PM (maybe this is different in High season, ?). The breakfast buffet has a good selection of food though I thought overpriced. I was disappointed in their upscale restaurant, Canoe House. There are lots of other restaurant choices however in the area. We were upgraded to an ocean front room. It was heaven; we left the patio door open at night and feel asleep to the sound of the ocean waves.

"Fabulous facility, awful food."
The hotel and grounds were beautiful and well keep, the staff helpful, pleasant and efficient. However, the food was awful and very expensive. I do not mind paying a high price for food, but the food in every restaurant at the Fairmount Orchard was between bad and awful. Hardly edible.

"Happy"
I was so very happy with my stay. All employees of the hotel that I had the opportunity to talk to was so very nice and helpful. The views were absolutely amazing. And I loved the way the waves broke against the rocks, it was fun and breathtaking.

"Great Kona resort"
We stayed for 7 nights and wished we had 7 more. Great staff, security, luaa, location and room. Easy walking to food. Easy travel to historic sites. Tours avsilable, but we chose to do our own thing. The lagoon was never crowded and the one night we used the pool, we were the only folks there. Our request for maintenance support was met in minutes. Seems that in fixing the clogged drain in the room above us, they backed up our pipes. By the time we returned, our room was clean and working well. My one complaint is the confusing parking lot. Our car was hit by a couple from Germany as they tried to get assistance to operate the gates and navigate the one way roads. Got to meet hotel security and local police, but it took hours to process. (Renting a car? Get the insurance- Hawaii is a no fault State.) Loved out Lagoon tower room where we had a partial ocean, resort view. We could watch the luaa each night from our balcony. Lots of restaurants nearby and pedestrians on the main strip. Felt safe.

"Nice hotel with all or most rooms facing the beach"
Overall, I recommend this hotel though the rooms could use some updating. For the price, it's well worth it. The gym is adequate given the limited number of individuals who used it durning my stay.

"Condo in great location for a reasonable price"
Started out real bad. I made the booking and my 80-year old mother and friend arrived and were denied access because I was not present. Same last name, same address, same credit card. Had to call Travelocity to change name and confirm with hotel. Very unpleasant. Then they felt bad got extra spacious rooms and whatever perks possible. Outside of that great service, great stay for two weeks. Lots of trips from that central location. Close to Waikoloa reposts and shops such as Queen's shops and King's shops. Traffic near non existent, compared to the incredibly busy Kona area. Costco close enough with their gas station and warehouse. Good restaurants in the vicinity, excellent Luau in Waikoloa hotels. Easy to reach Waimea, Honokaa with the Waipio Valley, easy to Hilo and Volcanic Park via the fast road, avoiding Kona traffic. A 10 minute walk to KTA store, also restaurants and a gas station right there. Fantastic views of sunsets and sunrises. Comical turkey flocks roam around, as well as the protected Nenes on the golf course. I like cooking and baking and everything is in the condos. Air conditioning is included in some packages not in others, make sure you know. I have stayed there before and was impressed. One thing needing attention is the Wifi which is intermittent and slow.
