The staff run a clean and efficient environment. If you are looking to break from the crowd, utilize the staff and their local knowledge to avoid tourist traps. However, if you do like a bit of mix of both touristy and not touristy, the Hotel National is within walking distance. They offer excursions, the most expensive being Vinales. However, if Roman is your driver he knows every interesting spot, and the people there. It is like having a private tour where most people have to take tour buses. Sure there is no extras with that price, but you are paying for local knowledge and not being treated like a general tourist. Finally, Rafial, Anna, Gabriella, and Lilliana are great and can converse in English, which was helpful for my broken Spanish.
