Out of the way with small rooms

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet
Cons: expensive, remote location
I recently stayed in a Junior suite, which was very small. Although clean, the decor felt more like an uncomfortable museum than a cozy room. The hotel had a great view, but it was difficult to arrange taxi transportation due to the somewhat remote location. We actually had difficulty finding cabs that were willing to take us back to the hotel, due to the confusing and narrow roads in Santa Teresa. It is close to the samba clubs of Lapa, but the beaches are about 20 minutes by taxi in good traffic. For a positive, the restaurant was good and the pool area is nice.

Hiddem Gem in Rio de Janeiro....not to miss!

Brand new boutique hotel, very spacious rooms with wonderful decoration, furniture and arts from all over Brazil, we had a room with private veranda that looked over the garden and the city, staff was always very helpful (most spoke English), wifi in rooms and lobby. We truly had the best massage ever at the Spa (anti-stress), amazing and so affordable! We ate several times at the restaurant that offered great variety of dishes with beautiful views over the mountains and the city. Do not miss the seafood risotto! Location is great, santa teresa is very charming neighboorhood, historical and cultural, close to Lapa where all the bars are, next to the Christ statue and 10mn taxi ride to beach (less than $*USD) ... so much more authentic and much nicer than staying in a huge building facing a crowdy beach...the hotel and its surroundings really gives a feeling of peace and rest... This hotel is a hidden gem and we hope to go back and certainly recommend!
