Great downtown location - lovely hotel

Pros: Location, staff, restaurant, comfort
Location: Everything --- restaurants, pubs, walking distance to the Liffey, to Trinity College, Temple Bar, shopping, museums, buses, taxi stand.
Staff could not have been more accommodating, especially a young woman named Kelsey who expertly answered all my queries about buses, how to get to the airport, and more. She explained the airport departure system to me--one goes through US Immigration in Dublin. She provided several helpful tips about the location of the coffeeshops and so on.

Location, location, location!

While this hotel is not a five star in terms of a grand lobby or extra amenities the Academy Plaza was 5-star in meeting our needs on our first trip to Dublin. We were interested in sightseeing on the Hop-on Hop-off buses and day trips out of Dublin and the hotels location on a quiet street just off busy O'Connell Street was perfect. It is a block away from the tour buses and the reasonably priced Airlink bus to and from the airport. There are also excellent pubs within a block or two. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the rooms clean and the beds good. Some reviews have mentioned the small size of the rooms, but our room was not small by European standards and we were not there to spend time in the room anyway! We enjoyed the breakfast in the dining room and had a nice take out one evening. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice place at a moderate price.

Very nice

Pros: The hotel was very nice and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant and pub were nice, and the food was very good.
Cons: My room was very clean but small. I requested a single bed so I received a small room with a tiny shower. My friend got a room with two beds and he had a large bathroom with a tub and shower. I am not complaining. The choice was mine but if I had known that the bathroom / shower would be so small I would have spent a few extra dollars for a bigger room. I have seen 5th wheel trailers with bigger bathrooms. The shower was literally the size of a phone booth.
Location: Location was awesome. Right in the city center. Dozens and dozens of restaurants and pubs to choose from. Everything within walking distance.

A big disappointment

The room was very, very tiny. The double bed nearly filled all of the space. The bath/shower was very difficult to get into and its floor was slippery. The handicapped bar was mounted very low and useless for a shower user. If you are a tourist, stay on the other side of the river where most of the interesting attractions are.

Expensive night for a very small room

Although overall the hotel was very nice, our room was tiny and for the cost a disappointment.

Great value for money

Pros: Price, service, breakfast, cleanliness
Cons: Temperature control in the guest rooms.
Location: In city center just off O'Connell St.
I highly recommend this hotel it is a great value for the money. We opted for the breakfast, and there was a great selection of freshly prepared items. The baked goods were wonderful! My party consisted of myself (age 47) and my Mom (age 69). We are early risers and consequently go to bed early (by 10pm). There is a nightclub next door to the hotel with an outdoor patio featuring live music and a large LED screen. We checked in on a Saturday and we we came in at 8pm there was a large crowd outside enjoying the live band. It was incredibly loud, even with the window closed. In addition there was no way to run the fan in the room to alleviate the stuffiness. We complained to the front desk and after three phone calls we were moved to a new (larger!) room on the other side of the building. So if you plan to retire early, be wary of the nightclub next door!

Hot Convenient Dublin hotel

Pros: Value for money, great for airport transport, stores, cafes etc close by.
Cons: Lighting in room and bathroom.
Location: Actual location is not great at night. A fast 20 minute walk to Grafton Street.
Hotel is good value. It is a 20 minute fast walk to city center. Airport coach stops right outside hotel which is great. Amenities are pretty basic but for the price it's great. Lighting is not great in the bedroom for reading or bathroom for putting on make up etc.

A bad made good

Pros: Close to everything downtown dublin
Cons: Get rid of those very small rooms.
Location: Too numerous to mention. If there for at least two days definitely get on hope on/off bus. For 3 more bucks you get to use it for 2days
When my husband and I got to hotel earlier than check in we eventually got a room a bit earlier but was one that came available. It was right over the lobby. My husband heard the movement of luggage and doors opening and closing all night long. Plus the room was very small. He told the front desk of his experience and we were moved to the 7th floor to a much bigger, quieter room for our last night in Dublin so we were very happy.......a potential very bad made good.
