"Inexpensive Hotel says it all"
For a cheap stay, this is the place. Don't expect anything except the least expensive close to the airport hotel stay and you won't be disappointed. Parking is on the street, there were never enough spaces in the "free parking". The TV did not work the first night and when we called to get help, no one answered. It was fixed the next day and the cable worked well. The bed, bath, towels, etc. were all adequate and it seemed safe. The staff were helpful. I would recommend this hotel for anyone who does not want any amenities but just a cheap place to stay the night.

"Perfect stay"
The entire staff was helpful and gracious from the valet to the front desk to the maid service. They had a pet bowl and and pet bed ready for my dog at check in. The bed was comfortable, the room was gorgeous with an excellent view. The hotel provided coffee in the morning in the cozy lobby and the location was perfect, right in the heart of the gaslamp district and very walkable to all the restaurants, bars and sites. My dog and I had a great time and will definitely return to this hotel.

"Nice hotel, but needs an upgrade"
We had a nice enough stay at the Lafayette, but a few things were kind of out of date. The AC made a horrible clicking noise the whole time we were there and there's no bathroom fan. Also, the little hotel restaurant was really overpriced; we were charged $7 to sub toast for French toast and they only gave us one slice (two triangles). But the aesthetic is pleasing and is a good location.

"Extended stay at Somerset Suites"
I stayed about 10 days at the Somerset Suites. Large room, enough to stretch out.Very clean kitchen, bath & tile, maids are thorough and friendly. Laundry area was clean and there are specific hours of operation so the people in the neighboring rooms are not disturbed. Carpets and drapes/sheers needed to be cleaned. Near a hospital but you would never know with the sliding window closed. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful with needed business services, computers and printing.

"Great location, questionable staff"
my boyfriend and I decided on going on a staycation for the weekend to explore one of the neighborhood gems in San Diego that we've never spent time in. the hotel is beautifully decorated and located right in the hub of authentic Italian restaurants and bars. we would definitely recommend the hotel to anyone who is having a short stay because the rooms are rather small, but perfect for those not spending the majority of their time in the inside. our room was modern and comfortable. the only real issue we had was with the hotel staff. on two separate occasions we had someone walk into our hotel room without knocking. of course with my luck, I happened to be indisposed. both members of the staff continued to stand in the doorway and talk to me when I was obviously in shock and scrambling to cover myself up. so, if you don't mind sacrificing a little privacy than this is the place for you.

"Perfect pad for partying"
I wanted a stylish spot in Gaslamp for me (and friends if need be) to crash at for my 30th birthday. I took a gamble in reserving this hotel as I did not know which one I was getting. All I knew ahead of time was that it was in dowtown and 4 stars. When I found out the location of the hotel, my jaw dropped. Right in the middle of all of downtown San Diego's best bars and restaurants. The lobby wasn't much of a lobby, quite small but all the staff for check in were prompt and friendly. Room was clean, well kept, and hip urban modern decor. It was also stuffed with lots of goodies too, just don't eat everything! The shower was out in the open, be aware if you have privacy issues. But this hotel was all that I had hoped for. The biggest con for me was parking, at $35 a nite it is not cheap so factor that in your bill. Also, if you are sensitive to noise, be aware that you will here all the commotion from the streets below. Best for younger singles and couples, not recommended for kids and families.
