    Illinois Hotel Travel Guide

If you haven’t seen the Midwestern United States, you’re missing out, especially when it comes to Illinois. The place is alive with major sports, historical landmarks, and expansive wilderness. Whether you want to walk the Magnificent Mile in Chicago, sail on Lake Michigan, or visit the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library in Springfield, this state will far exceed your expectations.

    What to Do in Illinois

Kick off your trip by staying at a hotel in Chicago. “The Windy City” is overflowing with activities and attractions to do and see, so get started on your adventure. Head up to Willis Tower and enjoy the best views of the Chicago skyline. Get your jollies by standing on the Skydeck, a glass-enclosed balcony extending 4 feet from the building’s façade. Once the butterflies leave your stomach, get back to street level and devour a deep-dish pizza. Want to wash all that food down with a Prohibition-style cocktail? Try to locate one of the speakeasies scattered throughout the city and order drinks with names like Tuxedo #2, Bee’s Knees, and Southside--the latter was said to be Al Capone’s favorite.

Leave the city slickers behind and head south to Shawnee National Forest. Explore its Little Grand Canyon, hike the Valley of the Gods, and cross the Pomona Natural Bridge. Are you worried about where to stay in the wilderness? Pitch a tent at one of the 13 campsites or upgrade to a cabin rental for a real backwoods experience. If you prefer more modern accommodation, the surrounding towns have some of the better bed and breakfast resorts in Illinois to bunk in.

Come enjoy a Midwestern holiday in “The Land of Lincoln.” Use Travelocity and save up to $537 when you book a hotel in Illinois and flight at the same time. From the central capital of Springfield, to the towering beauty of Chicago, Illinois should be your top choice for your next getaway.

    "Could be better"
While the James is very convenient being only 1 block off of Michigan Avenue, I found the staff to be excellent and the set up of the rooms was nice. I liked the idea of the soft lighting that comes on at night so that you do not have to bumble around a strange place in the dark. I found the uneven floors in the elevators to be quite disconcerting. I also missed the availability of vending of any type.

    "Good travel rest stop"
A solid quality rest stop for travelers. Nothing fancy, but they provide some extras typically found in properties catering more to business travel. Very affordable for long-distance travelers, the hotel was manned round-the-clock to accommodate our rain-delayed arrival (rest stop in a long-distance interstate auto trip). Bedrooms were neat, although smoke-free meant that they had made serious attempts to eliminate long-term effects of many prior smokers. Vanity was great. Bathroom was adequate, although floor could have been cleaner (remedy: use provided bath mat). Better than some Holiday Inn and Ramada properties I've stayed in. No wireless or in-room Internet, but they provided a terminal in the breakfast/lobby area for guest use.

    "impressed & happy"
The front desk employee was polite and helpful. The king room I stayed in was spacious and clean. The recent renovation looked great. The bed was very comfortable. I would absolutely stay here again. The only not-so-great thing is that the room smelled like it had been smoked in before, and it was supposed to be a non-smoking room (hence only a 4-star rating). After cranking the AC unit, it was fine within 15 minutes.

    "Modern log cabin"
My side and I stayed in the whirlpool suite and loved the room. Very large room, comfortable bed, romantic fireplace. The log cabin feel was a bit overly done for my wife's taste though.

"Nice hotel close to all the attractions we came to"
Had a great time in Galena, shopping was great. Went to the "Grape Escape" Sunday evening for their quiz bowl event. So fun! Met a lot of fun people. Miss Kitty was very welcoming and the show DJ was very entertaining. Ate at "Otto's" for lunch...very good. "Vinny Vanochies" for dinner...DELICIOUS! Drove out to Eagle Run an enjoyed the landscape and view off the outside patio at their restaurant.

Only bad feature is having to pay for the extras, use of pool, exercise equipment for customers staying only one night and not using anything. Otherwise, we love the Eagle Ridge experience.
