My room was pre-warmed, though the temp setting was a bit high for me.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our time spent at the lodge. The views are breathtaking and the service in the hotel was great. The price of the food in the restaurant however was a bit overpriced for what you received. I would definitely recommend staying at the hotel however not dining in the restaurant.

Vomit & dirty diapers in room

Pros: Every interaction with the staff was quite friendly.
Cons: Clean rooms thoroughly prior to guest arrival, shovel pathways.
Upon entering our 1 bedroom cabin, it was clear that something was wrong - the smell was unbearable. Soon we found three areas on the floor of what looked like vomit. We complained, and the staff came in to clean up the vomit while we were gone. When we returned, the cabin wreaked of cleaning chemicals, on top of the remaining stench. We tried to switch cabins, or lodges, but nothing was available. The next morning, we found a trash can under the sink that was filled to the brim with dirty diapers, flu medicine, and (I can't believe it) raw onions. Two things were clear: (1) the previous guests were VERY sick, and (2) the cabin had not been cleaned before we arrived. On the second night, the staff moved us to another cabin of similar size. It was night and day. I was happy and appalled at the difference. When it came to checking out, I assumed the first night, if not both nights would be comp'ed. I was wrong. The manager stated that the best he could do was to give me 50% off the first night, and waive the $40 resort fees. We settled at 70% (or 75% - I can't remember) off the first night, instead of just 50%. At nearly $300/night, we ended up spending almost $100 to stay in the disgusting cabin that first night. Additionally, NONE of the paths were shoveled. We literally had to hike through about 20 yards of snow (falling a foot in with each step) to get in and out of our cabin. Very difficult when carrying luggage, and impossible for the disabled.

Poor restore stay.

The carpet was old and nasty there was cob webs and the furniture wasn't dusted. I wish they would have told us there was no tv. They had tv's for playing DVDs which was so old and outdated. New DVDs can't cost that much!! The shared bathrooms was clean. The walls are so paper thin. The staff was very polite.

Cozy with a lake view

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
The staff is very friendly and makes you feel welcome. The lodge has a cozy feel to it with a large fireplace in the lobby. I had a lodge room with a shared bathroom. The lodge rooms are a little outdated and small but clean. The bathroom was clean and close by. The location of the lodge is beautiful just across from Twin Lakes. The lodge also has a restaurant with good food so no need to drive back down into town. Will definitely stay there again.

Groomed X-Country Skiing from your Historic Cabin

The historic Tamarack Lodge, built in 1924, is one of our favorite places to stay...both in winter and in summer. From our rustic cabin, (you can also stay in a lodge room or in a cabin that has been renovated), we skied straight to Lake Mary and beyond. We choose a rustic cabin for it's character and price. This visit we stayed in Cabin 16. Close to the road, it allowed us convenient access to the car...which must be parked down below on the road during winter because of the snow. In summer, this cabin would have a great view of the lake! The kitchen, albeit small, is well appointed with a nice stove, oven, small refigerator, and micowave. Utensils, dishware, and basic cooking items provided. We made ourselves a nice breakfast every morning before heading out to ski. The bathroom is small with not much shelf space, but it works...plenty of HOT water! The bed/living room (this is a studio unit), could do with another lounge chair, but where to put it? We often resort to spending time reading and crosswording in the lodge lobby on one of the cozy sofas in front of a roaring fire. Visiting with Lodge employees *, *, or * is all part of the charm. All in all, there is no better place to stay in Mammoth than Tamarack Lodge! We have been faithful visitors for 10 years and always look forward to our next visit!
