Terriby understaffed. Doris, the front desk clerk had as many as nine guests lined up to check in at the same time.
This had nothing to do with the way she handled the task. She never stopped moving for a second and handled each guest with professional care. There should have been at least two desk clerks on duty.
On entering my room (252) I noticed the AC/Heat unit on the exterior wall was noisy. I checked the thermostat to see if I coukld shut it off...I could not. I then check the control panel on the unit. It had been disabled and was controlled by the thermostat on the wall. I adjusted the temperature and it eventually shut off. I went to the front desk and mentioned it to Doris who was still extremely busy checking in guests. She said there was no maintenance person on duty, but she would call somebody.
A short while later it came on again accompanied with a burnt rubber smell and it was increasingly noisy. I should point out that I worked in the Engineering Department of the Westin Seattle for 20 years. When I smell ssomething like "burnt rubber," I shift into action mode. I pulled the cover off the AC unit as it was not screwed in place. The unit was hard wired so there was no plug I could simply pull. There was some low voltage control circuitry which I left alone.
Truly concerned, I returned to the lobby with my bags. I mentioned to Doris that I was really concerned about a possible fire. She contacted a supervisor in Housekeeping I believe.

I truly do apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced. Our new AC units are smart units and wired to tell when someone is in the room. The are energy efficient and controlled by the new thermostats on the wall. I will it checked to and make sure there was a malfunction of the system.Being an airport property, we normally have two agents on the desk until the overnight because that time is slower. I will look at getting the overnight more support when we have airline cancellations causing the busy desk that you witnessed. Again, please accept our apologies.

Room keys did not work we had to wait on shuttle driver to open with master key
i prebooked a play yard however when i arrived was told none were available
I also requested a shuttle prior to arrival for my departing flight and was told shuttle was booked full for requesting times

Hotel is in a very nice location just a few minutes from the airport. The driver of the shuttle and the person at the desk check in were excellent. They went out of their way to help me. I arrived early and found a room for me so I did not have to wait around in the lobby.

Comfortable bed and clean room. The room did not have a hair dryer and I had to go out in 21 degrees temperature with wet hair. Unhappy about that.

Great they have a free shuttle from the airport, but it does no good when they don't answer the phone to arrange the pick-up.
