"I like this place."
The Opal isn't a chain and has a charm all it's own. It's not the newest or the fanciest hotel, but was very nice and just what I was looking for. The location was great for all the walking we did throughout the city. Even the cab rides weren't too expensive because most places were close in all directions. My only complaint was the room had the world's smallest bathroom. I bumped my head on the corner of the shelf to the right of the sink and when I pulled my head back I hit it on the door. As the say, "the bathroom was so small I had to go outside to change my mind."

"Rate Nob Hill Motor Inn "
Positive: Good Location. Reasonable price. Free Parking Negative: Female front desk employee clearly wants to do something else with her career. She checked me into a room at 5:30 that was not cleaned yet. Walls are thin, and I had loud neighbors that kept me awake until 2pm on a Thursday.

"A best western dressed up in anime"
Imagine a best western with anime inspired decor. The rooms are comfy enough and conveniently located near Japantown. Our room was clean and the service was sufficient. The gym is tiny and only has three pieces of equipment. I would stay here again do to its affordability and location.

"Clean,Affordable, good location "
Stayed two nights, it rained both nights I was there but didn't spend much time in the hotel anyway. walking distance to the warf and marina district. I got a room with a king size bed, not the prettiest hotel from the outside but the rooms exceeded my expectation of a hotel that price. very clean

"Looks better from the inside"
I looked at a lot of reviews before making reservations. The Phoenix Hotel had a lot of good reviews compared to the other hotels. The staff and room is great. The room was very clean and up to date. The staff was very helpful too. My only complaint would be the area. Very sketchy at night but at the same time it's close the civic center and some other great restaurants. I know that's not the hotels fault and there's not much they can do about it but it's something to consider.

Once you've toured the Civic Center, hop aboard a cable car and ride up to Fisherman's Wharf to enjoy fresh seafood, shopping, and sea lion viewing on PIER 39. Next, wander down the Embarcadero to the Ferry Building Marketplace. Sit outside at one of the cafes and people watch, or pick up some gourmet shop offerings. Not far from the hotels close to the San Francisco Civic Center is Golden Gate Park. A frequent host to concerts and other events, the park also features the Japanese Tea Garden, trails, lakes, and museums. If you are traveling with kids, they'll clamor to visit the park's Steinhart Aquarium. Of course, hotels in San Francisco near the Civic Center are also near the famous Golden Gate Bridge and the boat launch for tours of Alcatraz prison.
