Friendly Staff

Posted Mar 27, 2017
That's about it. The staff was friendly. I liked the room tablet that allowed us to call for water/ice. The room itself was nothing more than what you would find at a cheap hotel in a smaller city. The light switches were a pain to figure out. The WiFi sucked. I ended up turning it off. The in room mini bar would have been great if I actually wanted to pay $4 for a Snickers candy bar. I don't think I'll ever be "that" hungry to grab a $4 Snickers. I almost drank one of the beverages, but, again, the price pushed me away. The elevators are far too small. If there's already someone on it when it stops, you wait for the next one. No screens on the windows, its a good thing we visited when the weather was still too cold for most bugs. 24 hour in room dining would havr been nice, but, again, prices were unbelievably high. $14 for an omlet in the morning pretty much sucked. Paid for it, though, just for the convenience. Travelocity defined it as a "Luxury" hotel, yet I felt like I was in a "budget" hotel. (With the exception of being able to have a refill of water/ice brought to the room with a touch of a button. And overpriced food.)

Could be better

Posted Oct 11, 2016
While the James is very convenient being only 1 block off of Michigan Avenue, I found the staff to be excellent and the set up of the rooms was nice. I liked the idea of the soft lighting that comes on at night so that you do not have to bumble around a strange place in the dark. I found the uneven floors in the elevators to be quite disconcerting. I also missed the availability of vending of any type.

Great location but not much more

Posted Aug 29, 2016
This is our 3rd time staying at The James and it will be our last. The room was in disrepair with a large cracked hole in the tub and just generally in run down condition. We were woken up repeatedly by loud talking in the room next to us and the hotel staff was less than accommodating when we requested simple things like a bucket of ice. After staying 3 nights we were more than ready to leave.

Nice Hotel in the Heart of River North

Posted Jul 6, 2016
At first our check in was delayed because our room wasn't ready at 5 PM. I spoke to the front desk about the need to get ready for our dinner reservations at 630. They were very accommodating by giving us a free room upgrade and a discount at the the Primehouse restaurant on site (which I would also recommend when you visit). The studio suite was spacious and comfortable for the wife and I. Beautiful bathrooms with robes. This hotel is just off Michigan Avenue so very close to shopping and the Chicago River. I look forward to staying here once again when we return to Chicago.

Great location and facility!

Cons: The only thing that could be improved is the pillows. Down pillows aren't always the most comfortable.
Had a great experience at our home away from home.

Lovely, clean and comfortable.

Pros: See above. Also it was a nice walk to the Chicago Art Institute.
My room was pretty classy. The bed was super comfortable. It was quiet so I slept like a baby. The restaurant is very nice, food is excellent, but pricy for the portions. For a $16.00 glass of wine the portion should have been half again as full as it was. Cheese tray was also a bit sparse. You don't have to eat there, but I do recommend you stay there.

Awesome Chicago weekend

Posted Jul 27, 2015
The James Hotel is centrally located and is within walking distance to many of the major attractions. Staff is friendly and helpful, going out of their way to make our stay more enjoyable! The restaurant is fabulous and the hotel lobby is very laid back and comfortable. Nice place to drink coffee while waiting for the rest of the family to get ready for the day.
