Crime ridden, including the staff

At check-in late at night (through the bullet-proof window in the vending area)the clerk made it clear that he was bothered by my existence. He immediately informed me that the credit card machine was broken, so I would have to pay for my room in cash using their ATM machine. Because I was prepaid this was not needed, but strikes me as a scam--either by him for his personal needs of on the part of the owner. The room was reasonably clean, but the door deadbolt was inoperative, the safety latch was missing, the light in the sink area was inoperative, the paint was peeling on the walls. The best part was the bodyguard who spent the night standing outside my neighbor's door all night.
