"A great hotel with a terrible policy"
This hotel would be excellent for me if it were not for their room "surcharge". The location is fabulous- steps away from Columbus circle and the subway, shops, restaurants, in the heart of Manhattan. Clean rooms - very tiny- which didn't bother me in the least. Everything provided, including a safe. Comfy bed. BUT. The surcharge- a daily fee of $20., $15 of which can be applied to the restaurant or bar, is a real deal breaker. I booked and paid for the hotel in advance and found out about this facility fee as I checked in ("it was in your confirmation email"). This is a cheap ploy to get you stuck in their restaurant, which is not bad, but overpriced ($17.42 for a drink?) A real bummer in my opinion. I did get a great desk clerk as I checked out, who promptly found out about the creep who forged my signature on numerous bar tabs and fixed it. Come on, Hudson, just charge $20. More for the room and forget the gimmicks!

"Expected the best, received it."
Although we did not spend a lot of time on the property for our one night stay, we were very impressed with this hotel which was our first ever overnight stay in Manhattan in a hotel. Presumably due to low volume, we were upgraded to a junior suite after booking a normal room which was a nice gesture. With no comparisons to other NYC hotels, this one was comparable to other top end places that we have visited in the past. The bed & shower were one of the best we have experienced, the mini-bar was well stocked, and the complimentary bottled water and chocolates (unlike the $10 Fiji bottles other places lay out) was a nice touch as well. The room service breakfast we ordered was a little pricey, but good nonetheless considering the level of service and quality of the food. Unlike similarly priced resort hotels outside of NYC, the lobby was fairly understated and more like you were in a private setting, which I guess is understandable considering the target clientele and the fact this is a condo building as well. Also, the Columbus Circle subway station is right outside the front door and they also have drivers to take you places as well.

"Exceptional"
This hotel understands how to make you feel special. Their staff are respectful, gracious, and impeccably dressed. Rooms are clean, beautifully appointed, and luxurious. I loved the jetted tub, especially after walking for eight hours solid, and coming home exhausted with achy feet. Noticed I said "home?" It really was home-like. I found it really thoughtful that they left a bookmark on top of my book, and a glass-cleaning cloth next to my glasses. It's such a small gesture, but leaves you feeling like they care. Thank you to everyone at the Carlyle for making this an unforgettable experience!

"BEST HOTEL EVER!"
I knew that staying at the Plaza Hotel would be an experience in itself but I had no idea just how awesome it would be! The hotel is gorgeous of course and the staff was more than welcoming. The only issue we had was with our shower head in the bathroom. It was spraying water like crazy and even though we reported it twice, the hotel was very apologetic and had it fixed immediately! They kept saying how sorry they were and even sent us up a complimentary bottle of bubbly which for us first time visitors to New York was just such a treat! I don't know if I will ever be able to afford staying there again, but this hotel stay made my first trip to New York all that more memorable.

Overall a good place to stay to be close to the park and walk-able to Times square. Pros: location, friendly & helpful staff, good rate, comfortable bed. Cons: heating/cooling system very confusing, low light levels, tub water backed up.

"Quietly upscale hotel on Upper East Side"
We stayed as a family of 4 in a room with 2 queen beds. It was very spacious ( actually enormous for NYC), very well appointed, stylish, comfortable, and quiet. We received a bottle of wine compliments of the manager- a very nice touch. It is not a tourist or party hotel, expect well-off middle aged crowd in designer attire. But no snobbish attitudes were ever detected in any of the stuff, everybody was extremely warm and helpful. Cafe Boulud, adjacent to the hotel, lived up to its excellent reputation, but was rather pricey ( no surprise of course). Affordable and family friendly dining options in the immediate area are limited ( and they are generally not really affordable by middle-American standard), but the main commercial strips of Upper East Side ( Lexington and 2nd) are 3 blocks away with many casual and more reasonably priced eateries. Many of them deliver too. The location is beautiful( think 1890s architecture) and quiet, short walk to the Central park and the Museum Mile, walkable to Upper West side ( Museum of Natural History and other things). We even walked to the Lincoln Center and back ( about 20-25 min each way), but after dark it is not advisable to cross the park, so you'll need a taxi. It is not really walkable to midtown attractions. Hop-on hop-off bus lines stop a few blocks from the hotel, but as a means of transportation to midtown they are very very slow. Overall, would stay again, if couldn't find comparable options on south end of central park

    Central Park Hotel Guide

New York City, New York is one of the most-visited cities in the world, and for good reason. The city is alive with entertainment, culture, and art—so much so that it doesn't even get to sleep! Central Park acts as the lungs of the city, and it provides a welcome breather from the frantic pace of NYC. Book a stay in one of the excellent hotels near Central Park, and you'll be close to the city's attractions with a huge garden on your doorstep.

    Central Park

The park covers 843 acres of Uptown Manhattan, and it is one of the city's premier attractions. While it provides New Yorkers with a place to relax, walk, or run, it contains many sights of interest to tourists as well. Belvedere Castle is one of the highest points in the park and provides great views. Kids will love boating on the Lake or a visit to the Central Park Zoo to see some exotic animals. There are lots of hotels on Central Park that overlook this lush urban oasis; take advantage of cheap New York City flights for incredible daily views that will lift your spirits.

Some of New York's most iconic buildings rest to the south of the park; what visit to this city would be complete without meeting the Lady herself? Battery Park, at the south end of Manhattan Island, is the place to catch a ferry to Liberty Island and get up close to the Statue of Liberty, while the Empire State Building, which stands 1454 feet above the city in the heart of Midtown, offers observation deck views that are breathtaking. It can get busy, but hotels by Central Park are close enough for you to get there early and beat the crowds.
