Great location - close to great eating sites and close to convenient public transportation.

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet
Cons: cigarette smoke
I reall think this is one of the best hotels. It has a great central location and is within walking distance of Tiannenmen square as well as Temple of Heaven and other attractions. There is subway access across the street (and it is so easy and cheap to get all around Bejing on the subway system). There are many reasonably priced places to eat around the hotel and in the mall which is 5 minutes away walking. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The one thing that I did not like is smelling cigarette smoke on a nonsmoking floor. Unfortunately, it is probably like that in other hotels, too. The other drawback is that the internet is slow. Great bonus and tip - there is a fantastic tailor shop on the ground floor (Jenny Tailor). They are reasonably priced and have made me some of the best suits and shirts that I have ever had custom made. They make clothes for both men and women.

Excellent Location COnvenient to Central Beijing

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
Cons: pricey restaurants
This place is right across the street from the Chongwenmen subway station. The staff is attentive and exhibits the best of Chinese hospitality. The restaurant has a delicious beijing duck - if it is a little expensive. You can buy a cold bottle beer of beer for 5 Yuan at the (very small) tobacco shop adjacent to the Bank of China building next door. There is a fantastic western and chinese breakfast buffet every morning. And the business center has 4 Apple internet stations for guests and another windows PC for business behind the reception desk. I would definetly stay here again next time I am in Beijing.

Ideal location and a comfortable hotel

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, close to subway
Thew location could hardly be better. The subway is right outside the door; it's within walking distance of Tianamen Square and the Temple of Heaven. There are a range of good restaurants and food shops nearby, as well as shopping malls. The hotel itself is comfortable and clean without being spectacular. My only gripe was a very slow check out process due to a misplaced form (which they eventually found). Also watch out for the hotel tours; you will pay significantly more for them than you would if you go to a local tour company.

Great Location!

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, location!
Cons: no bars or night clubs
Located next to Chongwenmen Metro station which is a transfer station for line 2 and 5. Within a few stops or a 20-30 min walk and you're at Tianmen square, the Forbidden City or the Temple of Heaven. Modern shopping centers are a block away. 30 min cab ride or about an hour by metro from the airport. If you're taking a cab, upload a picture of the hotel with the name as most people don't speak English or read pinyon(chinese written in english letters) Clean rooms and friendly staff. Most people in China don't speak English and the staff here speaks just a barely lil more than normal. They will help you if they can. I would definitely stay here again. The only reasons I wouldn't would be to check out a differently part of town. Also, I didn't see any bar or night clubs nearby so if that's important to you check out the eastern part of town along metro line 10

Loved the Novotel

We stayed at the Novotel for 6 nights in early November 2010. This is a great hotel in a great location. The #2 and #5 subway lines are right outside the front door. The subways are very easy to navigate and you can get to a large variety of places you will want to see in Beijing. We stayed in the B building and the only complaint I had was the temp of the room was HOT. We were not able to control the temp at all. We also had an inside room above the kitchen so there was some noise but we were not in the room except to sleep. Bathrooms are nice with a great shower. Breakfast buffet was excellent. I do wish they had regular pots of coffee rather than having to make a cappucino or espresso by the cup. the lines could get long in the morning. Plan to return to Beijing next year and we hope the Novotel is still available at a great price.

A week in Beijing, China

I stayed at the Novotel Xin Qiao Hotel in Beijing City. This hotel is located right next to the #2 subway station (Chongwenmen). On this trip I wanted to explore and learn how to purchase subway tickets, and develope an (understanding) of reading their directional and transfer subway train schematics that are posted on the columns located on the subway platform areas, where you get on and off the trains. Beijing is increasing the reach of their subway rail tracks, increasing the amount of rail routes! Using a COMBINATION of subway and taxi (also those tourist bicycle rickshaws) you can get around the whole city North, South, East, West between 30 to 45 minutes, very cheap,* quai (about * cents) and taxi (between * to * US dollars). I used the Airport Express train Shuttle from the ariport (25 quai) to Dongzhimen (subway station), and I used this same express train to return to the airport at the end of my trip. It was good that I arrived in Beijing late at night (around 10:00 PM), because with our suit cases, there weren't any crowds on the airport shuttle and subway train! I was really concerned with the subway crowd. However; returning to the airport, which was at 10:30 in the morning, I avoided the subway crowd by catching a taxi from the Novotel Xin Qiao Hotel to the Dongzhimen subway, where the Airport Express Shuttle station is located. (cost around * quai) This was my 8th time that I've stayed at the Novotel Xin Qiao Hotel, the 10th 11th and 12th floors are the non-smoking floors. the rooms are clean, neat and comfortable. The hotel is located South, from Tian anmen Square, about a leasurely 20 minute walk from the hotel. There is convenience shopping close by.

Great Hotel- Great Location!

This hotel was in the center of Beijing and close to everything! The subway was only about 20 meters outside the front door and since all the places to go where in close proximity, taking the subway was the best way to travel in Beijing. Also you avoid sitting in heavy traffic. Although the front desk staff were nice, there definitely was a language barrier at times but they were good about handing you a map and pointing out directions of places. This hotel had about 4 different restaurants within the hotel which was a relief when coming back to the hotel tired and hungry......and the food was excellent for Beijing! I highly reccommend the breakfast-lots of choices. If you can, add it to your hotel room when making your reservations as the price will be less at booking.

Excellent Value

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in February 2009 on a business trip. We enjoyed this hotel and had a better experience than at many hotels we used in China. The strong points are: location (next to subway and not far from Tiananmen Square); clean and modern (recently remodeled B-tower); cable TV with some english language programs;breakfast buffet (not cheap, but high quality); staff speak English well enough and were generally helpful; beds are firm, but comfortable (trust me, this is not the norm); free wireless internet; nice bathroom; safe provided for valuables in room. Weak points: the temperature in our room overlooking the coffee shop was hot and could not be cooled effectively (the AC blew warm air no matter the setting). Leaving the bathroom fan on helped a bit, but not enough. Note it was very cold outside, when we stayed, so not much to complain about there; the interior windows are quite well soundproofed, but the slight noise from the lobby/coffee shop could be annoying (the player piano especially -there is only so much 'Fuer Elise' one can take). While the breakfast buffet was good, the dinner buffet was disappointing, as was the hotel chinese restaurant (Utopia). The Galleria bar was deadly depressing and they messed up our drinks orders. Overall, a pretty good hotel for the price, especially the location.
