"Pacific Beach fun in the sun"
Blue Sea hotel is situated right on the beach. The beach view is worth the additional cost. Watched surfers from sunrise to sunset. Left the slider open (we were not on first floor), to hear the ocean while we slept. Nice accommodations, and pool and hot tub which face the ocean. However they will be closed now till December for remodeling. Close to many restaurants. Get a bike and ride the multi mile path at the ocean. The only drawback was that the streets in this town are more dirty than most beach towns we visit. Not the hotel's fault obviously. Parking is scarce, and costs $20/ night.

"Hotel update."
Great remodel update thru the whole hotel. Miss the free breakfast buffet though. Pool area noisy with LOTS of kids and outside construction. Still our choice when staying in the San Diego area, away from the usual tourist spots.

"Vacation in San Diego"
The grounds of this hotel are gorgeous. The fish are entertaining and you could sit for hours by an evening fire with a glass of wine and relax. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The air didn't seem to quite keep up and the pillows were not very comfortable but the beach and boardwalk access more than make up for this. Christian, the bartender at the pool, was friendly and always in a good mood. The only staff member that wasn't very pleasant was the young woman who checked us in. Other than that, the staff was great. The men who greeted you when you came or left were always friendly, smiling and seemed to truly enjoy their jobs. We would definitely stay here again!

Arrived a bit before check in time - staff let us in early and were really nice. Beautiful grounds, awesome stay. Would stay again in a heart beat. Read a lot about extra charges in other reviews but it was basically California taxes.

"A wonderful place to stay"
My wife and I visited this hotel as a sort of 2nd honeymoon and had a wonderful stay. The hotel is what you might call a "destination" spot...but this also means that it is somewhat isolated from non-affiliated restaurants, etc. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but something to keep in mind if you don't have a relatively high food budget or your own vehicle. We used Uber a LOT, but that wasn't too bad. The location is near MANY San Diego hotspots such as Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Gaslamp district, and La Jolla cove. My favorite (by far!) was La Jolla, which is absolutely breathtaking. The facilities are very nice and well-kept. Is it perfect?...no...that's unrealistic. But, it is a beautiful area and I would highly recommend it. My wife and I plan to visit in the future with our kids -- they stayed home this time around. By the way, not every room has its own beach patio, but everyone staying does have beach access...it's just a short walk. During our next stay, I hope to get one of the rooms that have direct beach access, where you can have a campfire and enjoy the sunset and starry night.

"Perfect location, friendly staff, free beach stuff"
The hotel is in a great location, right on Pacific Beach, and they provide complimentary beach towels, chairs, umbrellas, bikes, boogie boards and more, which is incredibly convenient! The staff are very friendly. One room for improvement at this 4 star hotel is poolside service. The wait staff come around infrequently and they run out of towels all the time, so for long stretches, there are no fresh towels. The alcohol drinks are pretty weak but pricey. The mornings can be noisy with boisterous guests and housekeeping starts early (vacuuming sounds, knocks on doors, chatting in hall). But overall, the experience was great. Nice heated pool with a beautiful view of the ocean. A lot of the beach hotels in San Diego are run down and old. Not this one. Highly recommended.
