"Sparkling bathroom, but funny odor in room"
Given the budget-friendliness of this hotel, and the other comments regarding a strange odor in the room, I had low expectations for cleanliness. However, when I checked out the room with my UV light (yes, I carry one when I travel), I was quite impressed to find how clean the room was, including the bathroom. VERY nice!
The room did have a strange, dirty-sock/sweaty-tennis-shoe odor, and when I mentioned this at the front desk, I was politely offered either a different room or a can of spray air freshener. Since I had already unloaded quite a bit of stuff from the bed of the truck, I opted for the air freshener (a Glade refill for those automated time-release devices). That didn't work so well, so I got a can of Ozium at a local Wally World, and sprayed that throughout the room, and into the air intake on the HVAC unit. Voila -- problem solved!
The breakfast was heavy on carbs (cold cereal, instant oatmeal, fruit juice drinks, and fresh-made waffles) but low on protein, so we opted to eat elsewhere; I cannot comment further on the breakfast.
The in-room coffee was nothing to write home about, but at least it was there, and the made-for-hotel-room-use-single-serve-coffeemaker worked just fine. The free coffee in the lobby was similarly disappointing, but I am a bit of a coffee snob (we did actually bring our own beans, grinder, and coffeemaker, after all), so your mileage here may vary.
