"Comfortable & clean, close to downtown and beach"
One block from the beach. In the downtown shopping strip. Lots of restaurants nearby. Hotel itself has a restaurant downstairs which was great! The guy at the front desk was very nice- we asked him many questions and recommendations and he would give us direct, honest answers! Some things to watch out for: "Continental breakfast" consisted of toast, juice, coffee but you can buy more food off the menu. Rooftop did not have the beach chairs they advertise but it's still nice to go up there. Since the hotel is on the main strip, there is some street noise and you can also hear the restaurant dishes (we were in room 11 which is on the 2nd floor). Noise dies down at around 11:30pm and starts again at about 7am.

"Family Mexico Vacation"
We chose this hotel for the size. Not too big, not too small for the first time traveling with our 6 year old out of the country. The rooms and hotel in general are very clean. Wear and tear on the rooms is normal but did not bother us. The food was a 7 out of 10 at the various restaurants, a 6 out of 10 on the general buffet but if you stick to fruits, veggies, and other basics, it is more than adequate (understanding how difficult it is to produce a buffet for many people over long stretches of time). There were many activities for kids and adults alike. The foam pool party was a riot! The beach club has snorkels and masks and kayaks that you can take out to use. The beach is a small bay which was just perfect for us. We had brought a relatively inexpensive mask and snorkel for our daughter and about 30 yards from the edge of the water, only getting about waist-deep for an adult, it gets rocky but that is where the fish are for snorkel viewing which our daughter could not get enough of. The entrance of the water can be a little rocky at times so water shoes for kids are good. The property was small enough that if you forgot something in your room, it took you no time at all to run to get it. However, the rooms were quiet, seemed well insulated for sound. We had a room on the back side of the hotel where the dolphin lagoon is and that was fun and relaxing and quiet to sit there and watch the dolphins. Overall the staff was very nice and accommodating.

"Traveling with the kids"
We stayed here last week, for 8 nights. We have stayed in several all-inclusives, including the Grand Velas in Puerto Vallarta. There were four of us, including two kids 8 and 10 years old. First the good: - Best pool I have ever seen. Huge, and perfect for the kids to play in, which they did for 6 hours every day. Beautiful infinite pools, and nice swim up bar, right up to the ocean. The only pool that compares to this is the Grand Velas in Puerto Vallarta. No slides or anything, but the kids still loved it. We never had a hard time getting a chair, but more on that later. -Best food you will ever have at an all-inclusive. 5 star food all of the way, many courses, and you feel like you are eating at the fanciest restaurant in your town, every night. Kids menus at the restaurants that allow kids. I thought is was nice to have some restaurants that do not allow kids, nice to be just my husband and me, and send them to the kids club. -rooms are a good size, with a big patio, that we hung out at a lot. We had a great ocean view that was perfect. Good mini bar that they restock every day, and they will put in things you like, if asked. - great service everywhere, loved Julio at the swim up bar. Always remembered the kids, and made them ask for things in spanish, which was a great way for them to learn. -we were upgraded to the ambassador section, because they were doing some work at the Zen, so glad we were. Nice to be near everything. We did see the Zen section, still very nice, but you would get the jungle feel, and no ocean views at all. Bigger kids club though, which might be nice, if it were busier. Things that were just ok: -No one was there the first week of June. Don't know why. The prices are high, but worth it, and the place was only at 15% capacity, so nice to always get your chairs and reservations, but would have been better to have bit more going on. - there were a few other kids there, but my kids connected with none, like they have at other resorts, so boring for them on that regard. The kids club did none of their scheduled activities, so it was just a place for them to hang out and play xbox, while we went to dinner -Nothing going on at night at all, no music, no bar happenings, nothing. I don't want a raging party, but it would have been nice to have something. I know the place wasn't full, but I wish there was something to do after 9:00. -The rooms are nice, but loud, you can hear everything going on in the bathroom, which isn't always good. The beds are comfortable, but I prefer the rooms at the Grand Velas in Puerto Vallarta. There are two bathrooms in the rooms, and the bedroom area is shut off with a door, so really nice. I was hoping for that here. -the beach itself is nice, with fine white sand, but no place to actually play in the ocean. You can walk 10 minutes either side to do that, but nicer, if it were just in front. Such a great pool, so that helped. Over all really great, we had a nice time, and will probably be back. I think if we were there at a different time of year, I would have all raves.

"Great resort with awesome beach"
My fiance and I stayed for a week and had a great time. The resort, staff and food was excellent. Our waiter Edgar from Tuscano was the best!!! William at the front desk was very helpful. The food and beverage manager visited our table every night to chat and check that all was well, which was very much appreciated. The only thing that was not perfect was our bathroom sink leaked water on the floor. We reported it twice to no avail. No problem we put a towel down to keep the area dry. We will be back.

"Great Stay at Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen"
Overall my trip to PDC went great. I enjoyed the restaurants and bars down 5th ave, the beaches and Mayan ruins near Tulum, and Chichen Itza. The location of the hotel is ideal for going down to enjoy the local food scene, and to make excursions out to other areas of the Riviera Maya.

Hotel was outstanding, nice clean rooms with a great ocean view. Drinks were cheap and had a bar area for adults only. Pool was very nice and snorkeling was great just off of the hotel. Fishing boats and dive boats would pick you up at the waters edge.
