Lodging rentals should not be used by the property owners to promote their own religious beliefs unless this is clearly stated at the beginning of every description on every travel site. As it was, upon check in we were verbally invited to take the “gift” of the proselytizing booklets left in multiple locations throughout the cabin because the owners themselves had “found happiness through the salvation of Jesus Christ”. I wouldn’t be so offended by this if I thought for one moment that these folks cared about us in the least but instead I felt this was more their own lame effort at scoring their personal passes into heaven. Keep it to yourself I have my own beliefs.
We were not put up for free here but in fact paid top dollar to stay at a place that although spotlessly clean, felt extremely restrictive. We are fairly sure that the “24 video surveillance” sign in the driveway meant that there were recording devices even in the interior of the cabin. That is just entirely unacceptable. We felt that our every move was being monitored. The rules and restrictions were over the top- no vaping anywhere on the property is an example of that. It’s water vapor. Although I don’t vape, I think this was ridiculous. When renting lodging for a weekend away one does not want to immediately be confronted with religious conflict and a ton of crazy rules. There are no wine glasses in the cupboards. The amenities are scarce. No cable. Half an hour away from anything. Not a “fun” time.
