Convenient to the boardwalk.

Good for an overnight stay. Not for an extended period of time. No refrigerator or microwave in rooms. Very convenient parking on the street.

Nice hotel, questionable location

Pros: It was clean, friendly, and I felt safe.
Cons: The neighborhood is the biggest problem. And that's a political/ economic problem. The staff does its best to offer a quality hotel.
Location: The Boardwalk is probably the big thing. I did like the Resorts casino. Ripley's Believe It Or Not. The Steel Pier. And the ocean of course.
First of all, let's preface by saying... this is Atlantic City, after all. Everyone goes for the Boardwalk. And the Boardwalks is very tourist friendly. The casinos also are an attraction and offer a good deal of amenities and kind of insulate tourists from Atlantic City proper. The Howard Johnson is a block away from the Boardwalk. Within walking distance, but in some ways, a world apart. The neighborhood is a bit dicey. On the streets, walking back from the Boardwalk, I was approached "Hey Babe..." Hookers. And at night, there were men on street corners obviously selling drugs. To get to the Boardwalk from the hotel, you walked by vacant lots, homeless people asleep on the street. It's definitely not a place to bring the kids interested in the Steel Pier. Now mind you, on the same street as the Howard Johnson is the Courtyard by Marriott and the Wyndham. So the HoJo is just a victim of Atlantic City's economic situation. Inside the hotel is very clean. It's very secure with the desk clerk alert every time I came into the building. One of them even remembered my name from check-in. The maid service came each day and the maid responsible for my room was very friendly and very good about getting me extra coffee for the in-room coffee maker. My room was clean and decorated and furnished in a manner you would expect from a name-brand chain. I parked my car outside of the hotel and it was secure and was never fussed. The diner next door also was very good.

Night at The Howard Johnson's in AC

Pros: Parking was easy, the hotel staff was very pleasant and helpful.
Cons: at this time, all is well.
Location: The location was very good for us, and the places to eat was very good.
On or about 3:00am we heard people running thru the halls making very load noise and other things.

One word... Cockroaches!

Okay so because of the reviews I decided to give this place a chance. Big mistake on my part. I can't say the staff was mean by any means, they dealt with my situation very well. But I can NOT and will NOT be okay with any bugs in my room. The manager told me "they're water bugs, they come from the sewer" as if things can't get worse, the sewer!? I decided to google, big mistake! I could deal with the hair that was on the floor that wasn't mine, easier to clean. Bugs are a no deal in my book. I do not trust or will ever recommend staying there. They only get two stars from me because they handled it very professionally.

A very family oriented hotel.

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet
This hotel is about four blocks away from the boardwalk. Once you get to the boardwalk you are near the arcade and Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum which is ideal for children. The hotel is a quiet place and if you have children they won't need to be exposed to the casinos or some of the vices that go with gambling. There is a restaurant located on the premise called Perry's that serves delicious dried beef gravy for breakfast and delicious soup and sandwiches for lunch. The only drawback is the hours are only from 7:00am to 4:00pm daily. The staff is pleasant and always there to offer help. The TV offers many channels including some movie channels. There is no internet or video games for the TV which I do not consider a drawback because I am there to relax. I really do recommend this place for families because of its great value and being away from some of the seedier things children don't need exposed to.

A very good hotel for families away from the gambling of the casinos but close enough to walk and enjoy the boardwalk.

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet
Cons: No free Internet
This hotel was very clean and the staff was pleasant. If you have a family and want to stay away from the influence of the children seeing the gambling and all that goes with it this is the place to stay. You are within about four blocks of the boardwalk and close to the arcade on the boardwalk for the children's entertainment. Perry's the restaurant on the premises is very good the two drawbacks are the small dining area and the hours being only 7:00am-4:00pm daily. The prices are very reasonable too. Really enjoyed our stay and the channels on TV are great but there is no rented movies available or video games so that may be a drawback to some but not to me!
