We liked that it was a gated property with not a lot of foot traffic walking around the premise. Minimal noise staying in the backside considering it was next to a busy street. The staff was super nice and inviting. The room was clean and cute. Numerous lighting options inside the room would definitely stay here again b

Uncomfortable stay
The room for the hotel itself wasn’t bad, it was definitely spacious, though nothing fancy and a little less than average. But if you want to feel safe while traveling the San Mateo Inn is not it. The minute we pulled up I saw a homeless person walking out of the parking lot and there were several people who lived there with cars full of junk. I also saw multiple homeless people come in and out. We are moving across the country with a trailer and a nicer car and I was afraid to go to sleep out of fear of having our cars broken into. Obviously not something the place can really control and the staff there were super friendly, I just didn’t feel safe/comfortable.
